I am looking for a solid used tripod that I can mount my varmit gun on as a stable portable shooting platform. The ones dsigned specifically for this are above my budget. Does anyone know where I can find a good used tripod that I can convert for this purpose? I live and work in Birmingham Thanks

I searched used equipment websites and put the word out to friends I was looking for the same thing. I ended up finding a couple very sturdy adjustable tripods that are perfect to mount my guns on. I believe they are typically used for mounting surveying equipment or large video equipment. I now just have to find a way to adapt the gun to the mount. Keep searching. Hopefully you can run into one of them through some websites. Good luck.

I posted I was looking for one on the local photography group Facebook page. Dude gave me a solid one. Gonna stick in my ground blind this year.

What do you use to mount your rifle to it? Is there a particular head that is better for the task?

here is what i got: what tripod and tripod head do you use/recommend? asking for a member of of another board here in alabama of which i am a member. how about web sites or facebook pages he should visit ? Comments Steven Davis I use a RRS bh-55 ballhead on top of a Feisol 3372. It’s the lightest and sturdiest combo I’ve found that works for me. 2 Manage Like · Reply · 32m Steven Davis Thermal optics plus has good variety of tripods and customer service that won’t be beat. https://thermalopticsplus.com/Manage THERMALOPTICSPLUS.COM Thermal Optics Plus · Reply · 29m Grant Watson · Friends with Steven Davis I currently run a Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber Tripod and a Manfrotto 468MG Hydrostatic Ball Head with MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate. I have another tripod on the way and another ball head on the bench.

you are welcome. let us see your set-up when you've decided. the clamp device for the AR forestock looks to be the most critical part. you've got me researching rigs now ...

Ok I have order a ball head off eBay and a hog saddle slik tripod. Found a good diy tutorial on YouTube for the actual mount and going to give it a go! Thanks everyone for your advice and suggestions. I will post pics once I have received everything and built it!
