I'm considering building a 300 blackout pistol and have some questions about the 80% lower.

My bro built one other day. He said it took him a little time but wasn’t much to it. And he had no YouTube tutorial working for him. He got a shooter. Anderson ghost lower. PSA upper. He had 3 you could cover with dime.

Decision on jig - Nope can’t decide Have you looked at this? >>>-------> https://www.80percentarms.com/colle...asy-jig-gen-2-combined-ar-15-and-308-jigI'm thinking real serious about buying one. Get a free lower with it.

This higlights my issue. The DP is neither the best tool for the job nor really a good one but I have one. The best tool is a mill (too expensive and don’t have) with a good alternative being a router with an easy jig or equivalent. Less expensive but still don’t have and some require proprietary end mills.
If I wanted to do more than a couple I’d prolly go the router + easy jig route. But having the drill press makes me a sucker for going cheap.

I have a floor model drill press as well but I believe this jig may be easier with a router and I have a router.

I've done several AR15 lowers as well as a couple of AR10. I use a drill press with a XY clamp. I first bought a polymer lower to practice on. You can get one for about $20, https://www.eparmory.com I also bought their jig and works good. After the poly lower turned out fine I started doing aluminum lowers. If you can find a lower made from 6061 aluminum it will be much, much easier to work with compared to 7075 aluminum. The 7075 is some really hard stuff and can be a pain to work with. I've done a few with 7075 and it's really slow going. A 6061 lower I can finish out in a couple of hours, 7075 takes me all day.

I'm considering building a 300 blackout pistol and have some questions about the 80% lower. Hey crackhead check out bear creek arsenal before you do, they got some real good prices on complete uppers.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Less than impressive first 80%er. Drill press is NOT the best way to go. It was cheaper but tough on the DP and the end mill. Now if I can find a 350 Legend upper I’m a gonna bust a cap on a hog or two. Cause I can’t find no deer to do it on. Edit - Not standard mags! Forget that chit. 350 legend misses the point. Finally hogged one out

I've completed 4 of them(2 AR15, 2 AR10) using the Easy Jig Gen2 and had no issues. I use a drill press for the initial hole and then a Dewalt trim router to complete the pocket.
