And I get that sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do but drowning an animal is ridiculous. That's literally what Vick went to jail for. You really don't see how putting that story out there could backfire? Because shooting is ok but drowning is not? Big difference in a dam deer and a domesticated dog.

And I get that sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do but drowning an animal is ridiculous. That's literally what Vick went to jail for. You really don't see how putting that story out there could backfire? I typed it so I'll tell the story. Small buck being run by dogs hit back in the guts with buckshot late on a Thursday afternoon. Guys went back in Friday morning and put the dogs back on it and they jumped him again around 11:00 Friday morning. Second stander got a long shot and bloodied the buck again. There was a lot of water since it was river swamp so the deer got a good ways out in front of the dogs again and crossed the river. Dogs did not follow but there was blood at the waters edge. Rather than just go hunt another deer, Hunters went back home and got a Jon boat. Two hunters in front with guns, one driving the boat without a gun. Pull up on the opposite shore 2 hrs later and the two guys get out on the blood trail, other guy waits in the boat at rivers edge. Two guys are deep into swamp on the trail when the guy in the boat sees the deer stumble down the bank 75 yds upstream trying to cross the river again. He has nothing in the boat but a paddle and some rope. He pulls up beside the deer and loops the rope around his 8 pt rack and turns the boat downstream while yelling for his buddies to come help. Buck drowns as the current and boat pulls him back downstream. I got to camp that night and was told the story. Now, great white, I never make a bad shot, hunter abbhudson, you tell me what you'd have done. Do you finish off the wounded deer with what you have at your disposal or do you allow the chase to go on while he continues to suffer? Stuff happens when you hunt deer. Bullets hit twigs, deer takes a step as you pull the trigger, arrows deflect off of unseen limbs, deer jump the string, duck or whatever. If you haven't ever hit a deer badly and had to follow one up and do what you can at the time to put one out of its misery, you haven't hunted much and dang sure haven't killed or been around many deer being hunted and killed. I'll be anxiously awaiting your response as to exactly what you would've done if you were the guy in the boat. I know I would've done the exact same thing as the boat driver without even thinking about it and no regrets.

I cant say what I would have done but I damn sure wouldn't have posted that I drowned a deer in a public forum.

Look.... if you want to portray hunting as rainbows and unicorns all the time be my guest. I live in reality where sometimes marginal shots happen and human error occurs. I've only posted one of the outlandish stories which was 100% true because me as a 16 year old bow hunter made a mistake and left my bow sitting on my stand. I'm going to tell you that I have shot 100's of deer with rifle, bow, and crossbow over the years and not every one of them fell to the ground and was dead by the time the dust settled. If you and all these others want to worry yourselves with what these people who walk around wearing vagina hats and pro abortion signs think of how you live your life then go ahead. Zero ***** given from me.
Let me leave you with a question. In.... oh lets say the last three generations, how many hunting rights have the vagina heads stripped from you? Cougar hunting in several states, bear hunting, dog hunting deer in a lot of places, the grizzly hunt in Wyoming didn't even make it off the starting line, trapping has been severly restricted in a lot of states, and they took away a few days of turkey season for the upcoming season...I'm sure I can find some more if you'd like You think that the vag heads had anything to do with that? The cougar, and bear hunting were all management of resource decisions made by the state DNR's. It wasn't closed down because of the animal rights nuts. You cannot equate wildlife management decisions with anti hunting nuts taking away your rights. I suspect the only one that really may have possibly affected you in any way that you mentioned is the dog deer hunting. Dog deer hunters being regulated like they are in Alabama is because of conflict between landowners and still / stalk hunters and not keeping their dogs on their block of dirt. Had ZERO to do with any animal rights organization pissing and moaning.

Sound management practices point to bear hunts and cougar hunts being needed in several states, but the animal rights activists have pushed to keep them closed, and were the reason many were closed in the first place. The demo guv in New Jersey shut down bear hunting on all state owned lands because of the protests, even though New Jersey is thought to have the densest black bear population in North America. MASH FOR BEAR NEWSAny small amount of research will also reveal the crisis in California regarding mountain lions who can't be hunted. One of their top wildlife officials was chased out of his job because he LEGALLY killed a mountain lion in a different state! There are many other examples of animal rights activists/peta freaks stopping legal hunting in areas of the USA. I'm not aware of any in Alabama, but that don't mean it didn't happen somewhere.

Regan was actually the one that originally shut down the California cougar hunt in 1972 as far as I can remember he never had anything to do with any game and fish department.
..you want to live in your dream word where activists down get anything done keep doing it. Just remember the next time there's a rally to ban semiautomatic rifles somewhere that activists don't accomplish anything so there's no need to worry...what could they possibly get done .

Mountain Lion hunting was banned in 1990 by the passing of Proposition 117 by a 52-48% margin by the citizens of California. It basically made Cougars a protected species in the state of California. Proposition 117 prohibited the taking of mountain lions "unless for protection of life, livestock or other property."
The incident you are referring to with Daniel W Richards who was head of the California Fish and Game. He killed a Mountain Lion in Idaho. Democrat congressman Jared Huffman (who is not anti hunting) introduced a resolution to remove Richards from the state's Fish and Game Commission. Hufffman said, "He's thumbing his nose at California law. He's mocking it. Frankly, I think he should face the music and step down. He's done something that's a disgrace to his position and to responsible hunters in California."
It was all about a dumbass liberal Democrat Congressman getting himself some votes and not a coordinated effort by anti hunting groups to get Mountain Lion hunting shut down.

Ab......... if you want to be some sort of hunting activist or whatever, maybe you should go find you another forum where you and others like you can bite your fingernails to the quick and gnash your teeth worrying about the snowflakes with pink hair and spandex outfits that are coming for your guns and to take away your hunting rights.

When logic and intelligence can't get you anywhere in an argument personal attacks always work!. You say it will. I say it won't. Show me where it has stripped you of a right in the state of Alabama. Then we can discuss logic and intelligence. Y'all boys keep on keeping on. I'm out. I'm sorry that you took it that I was personally attacking you.... I was not. You should be better than "I'm taking my ball and going home" when someone disagrees with you. I'm guessing you are fairly young and idealistic and I admire your conviction. You and I can agree to disagree I guess...... I personally do not think that any animal rights wackos will ever take a single right from you in the State of Alabama. There may be some resource decisions made in the future that may not be popular, it's not due to animal rights people.

This is true. The libs wanted the director's skin for going out of state on a legal hunt and then having the audacity to post a photo of it. Legal hunt, another state, and they got him fired. That's horsechit. There were rumors of some other stuff but those never came to pass. It was nothing more than Left-Liberal assholes wanting the guy gone, and a Dem gov and legislature that didn't do jack to stop it.

I'm about 800 miles into a 1400 mile trip to go hunt out of state...so I worry about a slightly bigger picture than just Alabama. A loss anywhere in the country is a loss to all of us. The it happened over there but would never fly here attitude is how anti hunters will slowly chip away at all of us.

I haven't followed this whole thread and am late to the show but, AB, you are absolutely correct in this statement. We must stand for the rights of all Americans to hunt wherever that may be.
