Mountain Lion hunting was banned in 1990 by the passing of Proposition 117 by a 52-48% margin by the citizens of California. It basically made Cougars a protected species in the state of California. The incident you are referring to with Daniel W Richards who was head of the California Fish and Game. He killed a Mountain Lion in Idaho. Democrat congressman Jared Huffman (who is not anti hunting) introduced a resolution to remove Richards from the state's Fish and Game Commission. Hufffman said, "He's thumbing his nose at California law. He's mocking it. Frankly, I think he should face the music and step down. He's done something that's a disgrace to his position and to responsible hunters in California."


It was all about a dumbass liberal Democrat Congressman getting himself some votes and not a coordinated effort by anti hunting groups to get Mountain Lion hunting shut down.



This is true. The libs wanted the director's skin for going out of state on a legal hunt and then having the audacity to post a photo of it.

Legal hunt, another state, and they got him fired. That's horsechit.

There were rumors of some other stuff but those never came to pass. It was nothing more than Left-Liberal assholes wanting the guy gone, and a Dem gov and legislature that didn't do jack to stop it.
