Mountain Lion hunting was banned in 1990 by the passing of Proposition 117 by a 52-48% margin by the citizens of California. It basically made Cougars a protected species in the state of California. Proposition 117 prohibited the taking of mountain lions "unless for protection of life, livestock or other property."

The incident you are referring to with Daniel W Richards who was head of the California Fish and Game. He killed a Mountain Lion in Idaho. Democrat congressman Jared Huffman (who is not anti hunting) introduced a resolution to remove Richards from the state's Fish and Game Commission. Hufffman said, "He's thumbing his nose at California law. He's mocking it. Frankly, I think he should face the music and step down. He's done something that's a disgrace to his position and to responsible hunters in California."


It was all about a dumbass liberal Democrat Congressman getting himself some votes and not a coordinated effort by anti hunting groups to get Mountain Lion hunting shut down.
