I held one bucks head under the water and drowned it after I swam the river to get to him on dec27. He wouldnt die, so after 45min of laying on a muddy riverbank about 20ft away from him staring at eachother, I eased over and grabbed his horns and held his head under the water till he quit kicking. My adrenaline was up the first time across the river. 45min later on my way back, not too much adrenaline left. I almost drowned too.

A friend from MS had to use a large Maglite to finish one off. He'd shot it, it dropped in its's track and never flinched. He walked back to house and left his rifle at the house cause it was dead. Drove back on the 4 wheeler and didn't see it, so he turned on his light looking for it. When he found it, it charged him and he said the fight was on. Luckily it finally drove him into small group of trees grown up together and somehow wedged it's rack in the trees. He beat it over its head with his Maglite, eventually killing it. Both of them look pretty rough, the 8 point had some serious cranial damage with an eye hanging out and Rob looked light he'd been in the fight of his life.
The pic he mailed me was pretty rough looking, both him and the deer. This was way back before digital photograph was around. I used to have the pic at the studio but can't find it since bring all those pics home. I''l post it up if I ever find it, the pic is pretty self explanatory and the Maglite actually still worked.

Hardest one I’ve ever been part of was several years back a friend “killed” a 4 point in a place he couldn’t get a truck to. I won’t say it was up a railroad track but a railroad track may have been present. He shot the deer through the shoulders, it fell, he came back to camp for help(someone with a 4wheeler). I was back for lunch and had what he needed. Had lunch then went on down for retrieval. It’s been about an hour and a half plus at this point. We get to his deer to find it languishing but alive. Neither of us had brought a firearm. Only I had brought a pocket knife. So I grabbed its antlers and cut its throat on one side. Stepped away to let it die. Blood is spurting everywhere but ten minutes later the thing is still gurgling and trying to lift its head. Go back and ring it to the spine all the way around the throat. Step away and wait. Another 5-15 or so(it felt like an eternity) and all would get quiet then a deep breath and gurgle and the damn thing wouldn’t just die. We finally just grabbed it by the antlers and dragged it the 200 yards to the wheeler. It died somewhere on the way. At camp we opened him up. He’d been shot straight through what was a heart with a .270. Also only had 3 legs.

I killed one with a folding Old Timer folding knife. Both its front legs were broken and I jumped on his back and cut his throat, and dove off it when it started bucking. Another time I was in a company truck riding up I65 near Grenada Ms and saw the vehicle in front of me clip the hind legs of a doe. I stopped as the doe crawled up the embankment and got as far as she could go. All I had with me was a Kaiser blade, so when I got it out of the bed of my truck, the car that had hit it, probably 100-200 yards in front of me pulled off to the side, sped off. I cannot stand to see an animal suffer.

I was 16 and had just started bow hunting. My grandpa bough a little Hoyt bow so he could hunt with me because he really enjoyed getting in the woods with me and the thought of getting in the woods a month early really appealed to him. He and I go back in this swamp one afternoon and he picks a tree where two creeks intersect and piles of deer trails. I went about 100 yards from him on the edge of some flooded timber. I had never killed a deer with a bow before so I was pretty much in brown it's down mode. About 4 pm I hear deer coming through the water straight towards me. I get stood up and get my release hooked to the string and then I see five full grown does heading right to me and they are going to walk right under me. I let them get super close and I just drew my bow straight back as smooth as glass and settled the pin on the closest ones shoulder. I hit the trigger on the release and I see the arrow launch to the deer and then turn straight up and go clanging out through the timber. It turned out I had hit a small limb that I couldn't see through my peep. Four of the does ran to my left and the one I shot at run to my right. By the time she realized she was separated from the rest she stopped about 75 yards behind me and I could tell she really wanted to go with them. All of a sudden she starts coming back but she's obviously skirting me and she had already picked me out in the tree. She watched me like a hawk as she tried to skirt around me. When she got back on the flat where I was I drew on her at 55 yards and settled my 50 yard pin on the top of her shoulder and squeezed the trigger. The arrow arched right in and found it's mark but I knew I had hit her high. She whirled and took off up the creek that my grandpa was sitting on but in the opposite direction. After she ran off I let her have some time but I hear my grandpa whistling because he had heard me shoot. I whistled back and within a few minutes he was at my stand.
I told him I hit the deer and it was high. I was hoping maybe I caught high lung and not no mans land between the spine and the vitals which of course is a low chance of recovery shot. I left my bow on my climber and we walked over to where I shot the deer and found the arrow. I eased up the creek looking for blood and I found a huge spot where the deer had stopped for a second and then there was a solid stream of blood after that. It wasn't heavy but it was one of those easy stand up and walk trail jobs. I came around a bend in the creek and I see the deer laying on the edge of the creek with it's head up and looking at us. I didn't have my bow with me (due to inexperience) but the deer was obviously incapacitated and had gone about as far as it could. I was shooting a 125 grain Thunderhead and apparently one of the blades went through it's spine and cut some nerves. The deer's legs were useless to it. We walk up to it and start discussing how we are going to dispatch it and I told my grandpa I would walk back to the stand and get my bow and he says "I've got this". He then picks up a big stick about as big around as a softball bat and proceeds to start bashing this poor deer in the head and he's swinging for the fences. The deer goes to trying to get up but it just stumbles around and he's steady bashing it in the head. THUNK, THUNK, THUNK.... over and over and over until finally the stick broke. He finally jumped on the deer with it bleating and screaming bloody murder and took his little Case pocket knife and commenced to sawing on that deers neck with it screaming. He finally got into it's throat and it just continued to scream and gurgle. It took that poor deer forever to die after that and it was still trying to suck wind into it's lungs and convulsing while we were trying to drag it out. I've never felt so bad for a creature in all my life lol.
That was my first bow kill.

These are awesome. I don't have anything near as good. My BIL finished one off with a homemade steel hammer. One of its eyes was bulging out when we started cleaning it, a friend of mine asked if he caught this one bottom fishing cause it looked like a grouper pulled up too fast.
My dad finished one off with a wooden fence post.
I have stabbed and cut the throat on a few.

Umpteen years ago, I saw a woman run over a small 6pt (we were coming towards each other, and the deer ran between us and she hit it). Not relevant to the story, but this was within a rock's throw of Daniel White's house. Anyway, there were two painters in a white Astro Van behind me, we all pulled over to make sure the lady was fine. The little buck was still trying to get up, so those painters took a hammer and bopped that joker on top of the head, took the deer with them.
We were on the edge of Eternia, when the power of Greyskull began to take hold.

It took that poor deer forever to die after that and it was still trying to suck wind into it's lungs my brother's preacher tells a funny story - it was Wednesday bible study at his church (long time ago), and he gets a phone call - a buck had been hit on the side of the road, and they were asking him if he wanted it - never one to turn down free food, he said sure, bring it to the church ... when they arrive, the deer is still out cold in the back, motionless ... so preach gets up in the back with it, and starts to inspect his free gift from the Lord -- when all of a sudden, the devil jumps into the deer & it raises up, bellerin' like hell, trying to get out of the truck ... preach jumps on him & begins wrestling with the dang thing, flailing around, when all the racket & commotion starts to pique the curiosity of his congregation & they file out into the parking lot to see what all this was about ... preach didn't notice the audience gathering around, and reaches for his knife, opens it up & starts stabbing the buck to death ... blood is going everywhere, and it's still screamin' like the exorcist, not wanting to give up the ghost ... preach at this point is covered in blood, along with his clothes ripped all up ... it was the first & last time he accept roadkill on a Wednesday nite, he told me

My MIL shot a six point in Furman on the last day of the season in the 90's. Emptied her gun and didn't kill him. She pulled the cable out of a 4 wheeler winch and some how managed to get it around his neck. We pulled up in her field to find her in reverse pulling the deer around the field. We nicknamed her lasso betty.
