I watched a red tailed hawk try and catch a full grown hen turkey one morning. I could not believe what I had seen. The thing came out of nowhere, the hen went flat on the ground and the hawk hit the ground rolling and fipping after the miss. The turkeys took off flying and the hawk shook it off and took off behind them.

I did watch some cool aerial combat live watching a cutover back several years ago. Couple of red tailed hawks and dove. That was a really cool sight.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Come on 87! You know yotes don't climb trees. Are you saying a bobcat did that? Housecat? Sounds more like a black painter! Never saw what drug it up the tree. I assume whatever it was jumped out as the deer came crashing down. I don't believe black bears take their kills up trees and believe painters hide/burry their kills. To this day not sure what it was. Was on the pea river in Elba, Al. Likely a Yahoo. Nothing else around here big enough to drag a deer up in a tree.

An ostrich while hunting in Cherokee county. I guess he escaped the farm. We used to ride ATVs from Just off Lay Springs Road to Little Rock City in Leesburg. We were on the trail one day toward the end of Shaneyfelt's land and an Emu ran out on the trail in front of us. We stopped, it stopped. We went, it went. We did this for what seemed a mile and finally it barreled off the trail. Guess it was one that was turned loose when farmers lost their arse on them.

I was fIshing in a creek by my house with trees overhanging both banks. The creek is miles long, BUT two chicken snakes (mating) decided to fall out of the top of a big oak and splashed down just a few feet from me. They swam to opposite banks. Im not scared of snakes in the least, but for a split second I thought I was a goner.....

That drainage essentially runs all the way to Choctawhatchee Bay.Harper's bottom is known to harbor some strange and unexplained things that go bump in the night.Never laid eyes on the boogie man,but I've sure heard some strange sounds,at night,all along that river,all the way down past Ebro

Big Black River Swamp, Montgomery/Carroll County (at the line) Mississippi. December of 1986. I was a high school senior and was out stalk hunting with my .30-30. Hunted this place often and had just been here the week before.
I had jumped a few deer in the normal places and was putting a sneak on, slowly working my way parallel with the river. In areas the swamp would get wide so you'd have to work around it. I got to a thicket of cedar trees and just knew I'd jump a deer, was ready. Had killed 2 in same spot in year past. Worked my way in and I stopped in my tracks. In front of me was a rectangle hole...about 2 feet wide, 5 feet long and 4 feet deep. Shovel upright in the mound of dirt. This is a mile from any road. Zero trails to here. Hard walking out in the middle of nowhere. And I was just there in the exact spot not 1 week earlier. No hole then.
As I was studying the situation I got an uneasy feeling. Then I heard some limb snap very loudly not far away....hind sight it was probably just a limb falling and nothing....without thinking I just bolted. I ran ans fast as my 17 year old self could run. By the time I got back to the road and my jeep I was cut up and bleeding from all the briers and limbs. I went to the Sheriffs office and told them what I found. Wasn't sure what county I was in, so I took both sherriffs to the scene. They were stumped but said it looked like a human grave was being dug. Nothing ever came from it as far as I know.

One Thanksgiving morning I had climbed down and decided to hunt on the ground for a little while before heading home and heard something walking. I saw a head pop up over a small mound and then a neck and it turned out to be an emu. It walked right up to me, circled me a few times and then finally went on. I thought about shooting it, but I could just envision some emu farmer come running through the woods looking for his pet emu. I joked that I could have had the biggest Thanksgiving "turkey" EVER!!! After some people made fun of me for "seeing" things in the woods, I wished that I had shot it, just for proof.
