Got the wild hair to put an AR together. At first I was planning on doing a 5.56/223 but since I already have one of those I thought I would try something different. After during some research I have pretty much decided on the 6.5 Grendel. Any of y’all have any experience with this round? How does it perform? Ammo used? This will be pretty much 200 yards and under greenfield rifle. Anything anybody has about this round would surely be appropriated.

Like all 6.5s longer bullets will give greater sectional density thus penetration. It'll kill anything you want.

I'm thinking about a Grendal on a AR platform also. Mostly for something different and partially because I like the AR platform better than most any bolt rifle.

I have 2 6.5G ARs. One is a 16” barreled build that I have not played with much. The other is a 22” build that I’ve hunted with a bit. Shot 2 deer and several hogs last season with the 123gr SST Hornady. Every one sack of potatoes. The 22” shoots my Hornady SST and the ELD-m to the same POI and has stayed under 0.4” at 100 if I try a little. Running the velocity numbers I wouldn’t hesitate to run it out to 400-450 on game.

I was a looking at the grendel to add to the stable a while back then got sidetracked. Then a few weeks ago Wilson's combat sent out an email about the 300hamr. I'm liking the #'s they're showing. I'm going to do a little bit more research but this will be what I'll probably be going with but I'll not be shooting it over 250yrds anyways. .

I just got a 16” Faxon group buy barrel together and sighted in. 30 rounds in and the American Gunner 123s fired two .75-1.0 groups and Federal 90s were 1.0-1.25. For hunting I’m looking at the Federal 90s, Hornady 123 SST, or Federal Fusion 120 all will handle anything you want to shoot in Alabama. If you go over to 65grendel.com’s forum you get all the info you’ll need on the Grendel. The hunting section has tons of examples on how the round does in the field.

Great round. Low recoil. My 7 yr old shot 4 deer with it last year. Ran less than 25 yards after the shot. I have shot it out to 600 at CMP, very accurate round.

Don’t forget to look at the 6.8 spc cartridge. Nice round for hogs and deer.

I built an AR in 6.5 Grendel earlier this year, I used a Faxon match series barrel. I have to say the little round has proved to be quite accurate. Looking forward to trying it out on a deer soon, will be using 123gr Hornady SSTs.

I built one a little over a year ago. Only hunted once with it last year but it did great on a large nanny. 123 sst's is what I shoot, group from .75 to 1" all day. In my opinion it's one of the best AR 15 calibers going.

Do a search on it here. Someone asked about it last year and there was a good discussion. Built one two years ago on an ar. Have killed 2-3 with it. It’s my go to now out to 300. Love that little bullet. If you hand load look into the 129 accubond.
