What is this maintenance y’all speak of? replacing capacitors as preventative maintenance a unit will run with a weak capacitor but it isnt good for it most people dont replace them until they go all the way out. and keeping the coils clean.

I put 4 Goodmans in 10 years ago in a four unit we were redoing. Complete units and new lines. Never had one problem out of any of them.
Sold the place a few months ago and they were still running strong. great unit and my renters like it cold in the summer and hot in the winter so they were getting used hard.
I like them.

I have two 5-ton Goodman units...and had major problems with both...one at 6 years, one at 6.5 years. Each cost about $2,000 to repair. They had 5 year warranties.
My our-of-town friends in the business say stay away from Goodman. Goodman units were installed by my commercial contractor, and I'm sure they were cheaper than others.
At home, I have two Carrier units with a 10 year warranty, and haven't had to use the warranty yet. Two of my friends in the business in other towns both like Carrier.
So from my experience, I'd stay away from Goodman and spend a little more.

I ‘m not near the expert on HVAC as the guys here that do it for a living but I did learn quite a bit about them when I had a Goodman on my house because I was working on it all the time. To be fair the guy that installed it was a dumbass but that unit was junk.

I have had my Trane for 14 yrs and it's lived up to it's name. Had to replace two capacitors over 14 yrs....I think it was. I would buy another Trane tomorrow.

We have Goodmans in several of our buildings at work. We are constantly calling the HVAC company out to come look at them.
I would stay far, far away. How old are they? We have 3 of them, and none of them are 5 years old. None are nearly as old as the Carriers that were installed by the same company that we've had zero problems out of.

I put one in my house I built in Thomasville. 5 years no problems. I had Tranes for 6 years in Andalusia, no problems. My new house in Spanish Fort has 10 year old Goodman’s. So far, so good, but I realize they won’t last forever.

I have 3 Goodmans and 1 Trane
18yo Goodman - Replaced the blower motor this summer, capacitor replaced
13yo Goodman - Replaced coil at 11yo, replaced capacitor couple times
13yo Goodman - Replaced capacitor a couple of times
12yo Trane - Replaced the coil at 9yo, capacitor has also been replaced a couple times. This Trane replaced a 10yo American Standard.
Doubt I spend the money for another Trane. The Goodmans seem to run louder than other units. Whatever you get make sure it has a good warranty.
