Bought this new a couple or three years ago. I haven't been able to get it to shoot consistently. I took it to a local gunsmith, and he broke it down. I don't remember what he did but it wasn't much. Seems like I remember him saying something about sanding the bedding blocks. Anyway, when he put it back together, he shot two shots that were a half inch apart. I brought it home and got a 3/4" group at 100 yds using Hornaday Whitetail I believe. I then changed scopes and got a decent group with Federal Fusions. I got it out not long ago and shot three shots with the Hornadys and they were all over the place. So, I give up. I don't know if it's the cheap mounts I have on it or what. But, I am willing to make someone a good deal on this gun. If you are a tinkerer, which I am not, I am pretty sure you could get it to shoot accurately like most Savages are. If I remember correctly, I paid $575.00 for the gun from Bud's plus $30.00 FFL fee. I would sell it for $395.00 for just the gun with a multi-slotted scope rail, or I will throw in a brand new Bushnell XLT 3x9x40 scope for $50.00 more. The scope is mounted on the gun now but hasn't been fired since mounting it. I had a Leupold 2x7x33 on it to keep it light but took it off and put it on another gun. I can text or email pics. That price is for a face to face transaction. I live in Franklin county near Russellville.

I think those guns have a reputation for loose grouping. I wanted one and did a lot of research. I’m sure a good gun smith could help. If I was closer, I might be interested. That’s a very good deal.

I've used Fred in the past, but he keeps stuff way too long, and the last gun came back no better.

Is Fred even still alive?? I remember going there with my dad 30 years ago and I don’t recall Fred being a youngster back then. Or maybe he was just really slow and I naturally contributed it to him being old.

He is still kicking, but I don't know if he is still working on guns or not. Someone told me he had dementia, but I don't know that for a fact.

The rings and bases that come on those combos are garbage. I bought my wife the same gun with the same results. Buy you a DNZ Game Reaper mount and enjoy the new rifle! I just wanted to give an update on this gun. I mounted the DNZ mounts and took it out to shoot it a few weeks back. The only ammo I had to try with it was Federal Fusions, which I love to hunt with. There seem to be some improvement in how it shot but still not good enough to hunt with. A couple of weeks later I bought some Hornady American Whitetail ammo and gave it a try. I got a 3.25" group with those which left me frustrated again. Put the gun back in the closet and thought about trying to sell it again, or giving it away. Yesterday I got it out again. I gave the barrel a good cleaning and decided to try a different scope on it. It had a brand new Leupold 2x7x33 VX-1 that I traded for on here on it. I put a New Bushnell Trophy XLT 3x9x40 on it to see if that would make things better. Today I took it out to try again. I first tried the Hornady ammo. A 4 shot group produced a group just a shade under 1.5". I got a little excited at that. Switched over to the Fusions of which I only had 9 rounds left. The first two shots were .75" apart, but 2" left and about 3" high. I adjusted my scope right and down. I really bore down and the next two shots measured .5". I wanted to fire a third shot but only had 5 rounds left at this point. This was at 100 yards. I was thrilled to death and declared it ready to hunt with. In fact, I'm taking it out this afternoon in search of my third and final buck of the year. I don't know if it was the cleaning, the scope, or a combination of the two, but something worked! Sorry for the long read. Just wanted to let y'all know how things turned out. And thanks to those that encouraged me to keep trying. THIS GUN IS NO LONGER FOR SALE!!!!!!!
