These last couple of guys said it well re. the emotions on that day. Like I mentioned earlier, I was pretty young when this happened - 14 years old. Up to that time I had felt plenty of patriotism. That's a normal feeling...But that day was the first time I mourned for my country. And yes I was angry. Still angry.

Working at Gunter AFB as a contractor having gotten out of the AF the year before. Base was on lock down and we tried to balance maintaining work and watching the news.

On a positive note, I met my wife for the first time that day. We started dating a month later.

This was during my road warrior days. I lived in Dallas, but commuted weekly to Milwaukee, WI. Watched it all on TV, The next day Avis was blowing up my phone telling me I was not allowed to drive my rental car back to Texas. Lucky for Avis, they reopened the airports before my flight on Friday. I was also staying at the Embassy Suites. The first President Bush was on a plane that was forced to land in Milwaukee. They and the Secret Service took over the entire top floor of the Embassy. I wasn't allowed to enter the hotel unless I showed my id and room key. SS was on the elevator to make sure I didn't try to go to the top floor and introduce myself (again). We had previously met when he was Ronald Reagan's VP.

At a clients plant in Columbus, Ms running fabric trials for commercial wallpaper. The guy I was visiting had left the machine and came back a few minutes later telling me and the machine operator that a plane had just crashed into one of the towers. A little later he returned and said it happened again and he was told to shut down the trial. We all went to the break room and watched TV for an hour or two and then were notified that their plant was closing for the day not knowing how far reaching this may be.
Very stressful 6 hour drive home. Thank God I was on a driving trip and not flying. We have a couple sales guys that had flown to see customers and it took them a couple days to get home.

Im sure there is a reason, but Ive never understood why they always do top floor for something like that. I guess that's where the penthouse might be (in a nicer hotel), but seems like if there was an issue, it would be hardest to get out. (without a helicopter rooftop escape)

Top floors are easier to defend, safer from car bombs and drive by shooting.
Plus easier to evac with a helicopter.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Was listening to radio waking up getting ready to go to class my sophmore year. I vividly remember thinking I was dreaming while actually being semi awake coherent while listening to the early events unfold in the radio. My dad came in from 11-7 and opened my door when he got home and we sat in the living room watching the news for hours. When the second plane hit he stood up and paced around almost shaking. Kinda freaked me out at the moment Bc we were so removed from the incident but as the years have passed I think abt it every year on 9/11 and i appreciate / admire such a reaction. Neither one of us knew anyone directly involved but our different reactions toward the situation as a whole made me appreciate what that generation thought of our country and and citizens.

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

At work early in the work day, sitting in a cubicle at O'Neal steel, room full of cubicles in the IT department. There was enough internet, texting, etc around back then, word of it started trickling around the room. Everyone just stopped working and started following it however we could at the time. When word of the 2nd one starting going around, everyone crammed into the break room to watch the TV. I honestly don't remember much about the day after that, not sure if I was just numb or what. It seems like we stayed at work at least until early afternoon, but nobody was working. Horrible, strange day for sure.

Had just left my Tuesday morning men's bible study and came to office. We actually still meet every Tuesday and we discussed it this morning. One of the girls came running into the office saying in an airplane had hit the twin towers. We didn't have a TV in the office then so we thought it was just a small plane that had accidentally flown into the building. Of course a short while later we found out how serious it was. No one came to their appointments that day and we just sat around listening to the radio. Such a strange day. A day I'll never forget.

I was a freshman at Snead State CC and I was sitting in math class when this guy come in stoned as can be and rambled something to me about planes hitting buildings. I thought he was just super stoned and paid him no attention, after class I went to the student building and it was dead quite with about 250 students watching it all play out on TV. I'll never forget how quite that building was when I opened the loud metal doors.

I was in my 6th grade history class which if I remember right was first period. As soon as we heard what was going on and saw it on TV the first thing I thought of was remembering that that morning my dad was supposed to be flying from Tallahassee to south Dakota. I went into full blown panic mode and tried calling my dad to make sure he wasn't on either plane and could not get up with him for a while which did not help matters any and then he finally called to let me know he was ok and grounded at an air port. Definently a day that I don't think I'll ever forget.

I was surveying the centerline of Corridor X (I-22) in Carbon Hill. When it was still woods.
We were listening to Beaner and Ken on the radio.
We thought it was a joke at first...

Driving through Cochrans corner on Hwy 75. A pullet grower that I worked with called me and told that an airplane had just flown into the world trade center. I was so naive about the situation, I asked him if it was really foggy in NY. He said no that they think it was a terrorist attack. About that time they started talking about it on the news. I went back home to watch it on TV and got home right after the 2nd plane hit. I'll never forget that day.

Day 2 or 3 of flight school at Fort Rucker. When fist plane hit another instructor came in and told us. They let us on break and we all watched the second plane hit. Someone in the group said something to the effect, a he11 this sh*t just got real. We’re going to go war!
