Hey , does the Elk go nocturnal like whitetails? The elk in easy access areas jus leave clear cuts early. Just like deer, elk need cover, food, water during the day. We pre-rut now so it's gonna get fun

How many hunters do you have to compete with on the public lands? Depends 9n where ya hunt. You can have 6 rigs parked at a gate and if everyone goes 3 miles or less and you go 5, you're alone. It also depends on whose will8ng to dive off into some he'll hole

DAY 1 for me finally here. Clock set for 0505, up at 0400 with a headache, lol. Gonna go hang out on side of road and listen for bugles. Our normal winds are mainly out of the W, today ENE, not what I want. Gonna sit and try to locate the BIGGUNS without annoyncing my presence. Land should be open, rained last night so, I'll sit the line and wait on the email.

BORED!!! I basically walked a river bed. Hopped thru some timber to get on a hill and watch a clear cut. I've seen 2 spike deer and one forked horn deer. No elk. Plenty of rubs though. I've did a couple locator bugles with no reply.
