I’m not particularly happy that he uses that word. But we don’t sneak around in this family. I’d rather him be open and honest than feel like he has to sneak around or walk on eggshells around me. I’m going to say “Hey son. Watch your language.” I ain’t gonna wash Ralphie’s mouth out with soap.

Hell, I’m 47 and I still wouldn’t drop the f-bomb in front of my Mom. Or curse in front of her. Not that I use that type of language often.

Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?

I remember when my son dropped his first f word in my presence. I told him to never let me hear that word again as long as he is living in my house. He said "Hello. Look who you are married to!". Game. Set. Match Point. My wife could make a Navy ship turn around with her extensive cuss word vocabulary. It's her bad one habit I've just had to learn to live with.

As I mentioned earlier, if it's ok in your household then I' m ok with it, not that you need my blessings. People wonder why society has taken a turn for the worse, to me this is a prime example, granted it's small problem in the grand scheme of things but it starts and stops somewhere.

So your 16yo son calls dropping the f=bomb about a window, and all we are concerned about is the window? So is that permissible in your household? were you a hall monitor in Junior High School???? asking for a friend..... No to the hall monitor, but I was a crossing guard in elementary school.

It's not our job to be an example to our kids. It's our job to raise them to be better than ourselves and hopefully not make our mistakes. My daughters will tell you that the number one reason, for anything, in my house was "because I said so". They did what I said, not what I did. When they're adults, they can make their own decisions and their own mistakes. While under my roof, they did as I said, not as I did.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

If your son called all upset about something and said a few bad flavored words in the process you fellows would be more concerned about the language than about whatever was causing the stress?
The language can be dealt with at a later time. The boy is 16. Which ones of you didn't drop the F bomb a few times by then?
I slipped up and said a couple of other bombs in front of my dad when I was about 12. Dad didn't jump me about it but an odd look got the message across.
I would imagine he's a fairly independent boy to start with for his age. You don't have to condone it but at 16 your probably not going to stop it either.

If it's because he can't change a tire, or roll up a flipping window, then yes I'd be more focused on his behavior.

It's not our job to be an example to our kids. Wrong. It my job as a parent to be as close to our heavenly father as I can be. With that said, my worst demon is my mouth. It is a heart problem not a mouth problem.

So you don't have sex in your house? Or you allow your kids TO have sex in the house? Which is it? Or maybe you let an 8 year old drink a beer, because you're settling the examples? No, it is NOT our job to lead our kids by example. It's our job to make kids do as we say.

When my oldest son was 16 he also had a 4-Runner and he called me from school because the back glass was broken out. A lawnmower slung a rock and hit it. Cost me over $600 Effing dollars.

Sounds like Anthony has a good relationship with his son. Some of the responses here are redickulous

I raised two girls. I've heard it all. Eventually they stopped saying, "it ain't fair" because my reply was, "the fair" is where you pin a ribbon on a pig. And with girls, privacy always comes to an issue. "But dad, it's MY room, MY car, MY cellphone". Too bad, I pay the bills and I'll inspect any of them, anytime I please. I guess you could say I actually was an example to my kids. They both have their own kids now, and I have heard both of them tell their kids, "because I said so"!
