My oldest son, Samuel (12), and I had a great day at our club in Bibb County yesterday. Decided to hang out in a shooting house in the middle of a gas line for most of the afternoon, spent some quality time talking and making plans for this and that. At last light we had a probable spike come out at the end of the field, waited to see if anything else would venture out.
Finally a doe steps out about 100 yards away. There were other deer right inside the woodline but this doe was broadside and asking to be put in the freezer.
1 round downrange with his Weatherby Howa Ranchland Compact in 7mm-08...bang, backflip, flop. Distance traveled: Horizontal-0 feet, vertical-6 feet.
His 2nd deer of his young career. Meat for the freezer! Wonderful day with my son. Thank you Lord for my blessings! Next weekend is Caleb's (age 10) turn for his first ever deer. Thinking of using this same location.
