I don't really have a problem with GC. Why y'all trying to make things so difficult. If it gets any more complicated, folks definitely won't participate. Look how simple it is now, and folks refuse to do it. Paying for tags and more regulations is the last thing I want.

We dont. Tags and stiffer penalties and fines are the only way.

It be's that way sometimes.

We had a lot more deer and better hunting before they started the buck limit and any sort of mandatory reporting. And the hunter survey gave a lot better harvest numbers than GC. Hunter satisfaction was miles better higher in 1998 than it is 20 years later.

I think many deer hunters would sell their souls for just the hope of killing a deer with bigger antlers. Was it really worth it?

But PCP then came buckmasters and Nwtf and all these other "let's get hunters involved" BS. In my opinion all those groups got the high dollar Drs and lawyers and construction money guys into our lifestyle and fracked it all up. That's where it came from

Do it just like the HIP program. It's so easy. And maybe even make the farmers do it too. You know, the ones who get to shoot as many as they want, at night, during the summer. Not saying they should stop, but dang, if we're going to count deer, let's count some dead deer.

You left out the QDMA bunch. That's the real root of the problem. IDOTS think if we go to a tag system that we are all of a sudden going to have B&C deer running wild. Alabama is never going to produce big deer relatively speaking.

QDMA folks think the same thing about doe numbers. Now that does are nearly extinct in parts of the state, we were told that the bucks would be huge. Ain't happening.

It wouldn't matter if no one shot any "up an coming bucks," alabama would not produce big deer like the midwest. We dont have the food sources and summer nutrients to make that happen. Never have, and never will unless you hunt in a high fence and control their diets.

I'm with 257 i don't think it's gonna change until there s a big fine involved it still won't be perfect and it may cause sum not to hunt but if u wanna kill a deer bad enough you'll play by the rules and I think there should be some exceptions for really old folks

require the processors from each county to keep a log on the deer they process figure in a small percentage for people that process at home and problem is solved that would be too simple though and they wouldnt be able to target every deer hunter for possible fines the game check thing is just another way to write tickets.

like i said it should not be about making any one happy . it should be about the health of the herd !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

about the last ten years or so it's just bulldoodoo after bulldoodoo . the biggest bs started with the ,,,,, 1 to 2 ratio for bucks and does . that was suppose to be the fix all for ever thing . we've made new laws , raised the fines . makes me wanna ask ,,,, hows it working out !!!!

And that was my reason for starting this thread.
You youngsters ain't been around long to remember when BhamFred and myself and Clem attended every CAB meeting.
Frankie put it best, what we need is for you guys to manage the resources and not the politics.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

If only 49er were still around to post the section of the code that charges the dcnr with their responsibility. I don't remember exactly how it's worded, but it said their job was to perpetuate the species. No mention of making hunters happy or growing big antlers. The old dcnr recognized this and offered 4 or 5 different options to landowners on a management program. It was up to the landowner to decide if he wanted lots of deer or just a few. But now Chuck says management is his job. Where did he get that idea?

Skinny, we need 49er back. Let him back in and folks won't have to read my paraphrase. smile

I guess growing up in TN and always having to check in our deer and turkeys is making me miss what the big problem is with having to check in your animals. I feel like TN's check in is a simple process. The new system is easier to lie and cheat, but people that do that are going to cheat the system either way.

I can agree that part of the AL game check process is silly though. Examples, having to keep up with your harvest record and not moving the animal until it's checked in.

For the folks who want to issue tags up front ( 1-3 buck tags, a doe tag and 5 turkey tags) how does the DCNR know how many were actually used? They "claim" they want data. You'd still have to" check your kill in " in some manner, correct? How's that gonna work any better than what we have now?

I just skimmed through the thread, perhaps this is explained and I missed it.

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

Maybe a little different approach. But have the landowners report their acreages and kills at the end of every year. Maybe when there taxes are due. A lot of hunters would probably rather deal with there "landlord" than gw anyhow.
