How do we get an accurate deer and turkey harvest, in a way that people will participate and trust?
Please give your opinion about a system that is both feasible and accurate.
If you can't offer a method to accomplish that, don't respond.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Have a survey that everyone has to complete before they can buy a license the next year. Lifetime license must do the same or their license is suspended.

Ask BhamFred. Hes had the best suggestion I've heard. Do it like the dove stamp, HIP thingy. Report all kills and info at one time. Problem is info is about 6 months later, if that matters.

just like the Feds do on migratory birds. Fill out a quick survey when you get a new HIP sticker. I wouldn't worry about lifetime license holders, youts , and landowners as they ought to be able to figure that out. We, the GWs, offered this plan many years ago and it went in the circular file as too expensive. WTF?????

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I can't remember #$%&! We use to get a stamp for our license showing we had filled out the migratory birds thing, didn't we? Even lifetime license use to have to have that stamp.

Why not issue a buck and doe tag with purchase of license and your 5 turkey tags. Make folks scared to move a dead animal like the Midwest does with steep fines. Make doe tags $20 a piece for additional ones and buck tags $50 up to 3 total. That raises money to hire more wardens to enforce trespassing, poaching, over limit laws.

This is a good plan. But I only see it it working if we drastically increase the fine for hunting without a license.

Do you know the fine for not filling out GC? I will look it up but seems like I remember it being like $20.

Edit: $50 fine

257s plan makes a lot of sense.
Alabamas season is unbelievably liberal. I don't know rules in every state but I would imagine top 5 most liberal.
Someone could legally kill something like 100 deer.

What BhmaFred said. Heavy fines are good for lots of government intervention nothing like government force and income stream to make it only about money and not conservation/management.

Why not let money trigger enforcement? I mean what about speeding fines double in work zone. Makes you slow down doesn't it???

It shouldn't come to this, honestly, because how it's set up now is pretty damned easy and should be enough. It also works in other states easily.

I also like the idea of how Idaho does it. I think it's Idaho, or maybe Washington. Either way, I believe you have to Tag-Report your kills and you have to complete and submit the post-season survey within x-timeframe after the season OR you get fined and cannot buy a license for the following season until it's submitted.

If you have a lifetime license then you'd have x-timeframe to fill out and submit the survey or your license is invalid until you do.

Is that harsh? Not really, IMO. They lay it out. They enforce it. You, as a hunter, know what is to be done and repercussions. And they, far as I know, see results in management goals-changes along with transparency.

Yes, it does. Honestly, not because I want to pay double but I have finally realized with age-wisdom that killing a worker doing his job or phucking up and wrecking - thus possibly killing or injuring me or someone else - is stupid. Just slow down.

As for wildlife violation penalties here, they've never put any ripple of fear in me. Ever.

Court costs are easily an additional 200$. Not exactly sure for this charge.

first off ,,,, i will not now or ever buy a tag !!!!!!!

Troy's idea is a good one . to get a good count on DEAD DEER ever hunter doesn't have to report .

what they need is a head man that puts the herds first and the hunter groups be damned .

myself , i would glady fill out a survey ever year about what i killed , what i saw , health of the deer . ect . i'm sure many here would .

i don't thing making laws with heavy fines is the answer . imo !!!

It said $50 fine and $50 court cost. Isn't there something about court cost can't exceed fine on game laws?

Edit again: Court cost can't exceed fine.

Where would this leave non-deer hunting lifetime license holders?

Good question. I think on the waterfowl HIP permits it says "zero" or "none" when asked how many of X did you hunt/kill last season. Could do the same with deer.

Would that give an honest assessment? Probalby not, because some deer/turkey hunters wouldn't put down what they shot. That's why having GameCheck and the 48-hour tag/reporting requirement along with the post-season survey would be necessary. If they didn't report on either, there's not much you can do about that percentage of hunters; some just never will report.

But again, it shouldn't be at this poiint. GameCheck (when it works correctly) isn't difficult to use. It works in all the other states. I think in Kansas now they require you to send a photo of the buck along with your check info if you do it on a phone. What we have isn't like having to carve the Rosetta stone with an anvil. Just a matter of managing the people and change.
