Interested in learning more, but the similar small groups I have attended were about fellowship, hanging out, football, etc, not much substance. I’m not a hater but generally like a smaller, more personal church. We want to find the right place for us, just haven’t found it yet.

Boom, I dont know where youre at but it sounds like you would like my church. 75 on a pretty spring sunday, 65 you can count on to be there each sunday. The spirit shows up almost every sunday, every now and then we will have a dry one for one reason or another. Our pastor has a new message every sunday and we generally get it as he does, no cue cards and such. You would be amazed how often the message the Lord gave him the night before goes hand in hand with the devotion, most of the testimonies and even our sunday school lesson alot of the time. Almost like the Lord knows exactly what hes doing. I know everybody there and they know me, and I love every one of them. If I was to get out acting like a fool in the middle of the week, one of my fellow church members are liable to call me on it. I will guarantee you if I were struggling and needed some help more than one would be there to help me, been there done that. When I found out my dad was dying and needed a friend to pray with me, I called one of our decans who is one of my favorite people on this earth to meet me at the church, he was there before I got there. I guess im just a small church guy. But if you like a mega church with small groups, you can go online and join one and autodraft your offering and you never even have to go at all. Thats about as small a group as you can find, just you.

Yes. Motion night is the 2nd Wednesday of every month and is at the Grants Mill, Riverchase, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Huntsville and Montgomery campuses. It’s a big gathering. The city groups are “small groups” that meet weekly.

That's where we go as well. Bronson seems to be very nice. We've only spoken a few times though.

Your whole post was excellent....... until you got to here and decided to take a shot. Big churches and small churches ALL have their place.

Couldnt resist, sorry. I say exactly the same thing pretty often. If one soul gets saved in that mega church, were on the same team. There is a need for both, agree 100%. Im just a small church person and cant understand anything else.

Thanks, just trying to parallel it with our church. Youth meet on Wednesday for lesson with the youth minister, Smaal groups( Sunday school) Sunday morning and in Sunday nights( most of the time).

It’s pretty easy to get a wrong context from a statement of faith on a website… I can tell you from eight months of preaching, that isn’t even remotely what we believe. Incidentally, just this past Sunday I remember him specifically denouncing the health and wealth mentality.

The granddaughter goes with her softball team to Motion and loves it. I have watched a couple of speakers and like the atmosphere.

And again, it wasn't my hope to exalt the church (although I'm overjoyed with it), but I'm just in a renewed place in my faith and needed to air it! thumbup
And I hope I didn't offend with my remarks about Southern Baptists, I said more about that than I wished to, I was only being transparent about my own views and experiences.

At the end of the day, here's how it's been for me. I believe scripture should be preached in a substitutionary manner, not a transformational manner. Most the preaching I've heard in my life was about life transformation, and that's fine to do in micro amounts (if the passage is actually about that), but the macro theme of scripture is the substitutionary work of Christ, not my life transformation. COTH is heavy, heavy, heavy substitutionary, and that has been transformational!!!!!!

I grew up southern Baptist. I am still a Baptist. I was not offended in any way. That said, sometimes we need offending. The southern Baptist of today are not the southern Baptist of old. Likewise, when I read scripture I don’t see any mention of Moses, David, Paul, Timothy, or Christ being Baptist. Just sayin.

Praying you and your family love and enjoy COTH and that you get the chance to lead out in small group.

I was waiting on someone to bring this up. I had to read all the comments before I said it.

This didn't take long to devolve into a pharisaical discussion.
