You absolutely should be able to tap into SS for maternity leave. You should have access to every dime you put in, not a penny more.
We pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in SS and can’t touch it until a certain age that they continue to change. They hope you die before you ever spend your contribution. I can’t be in favor of that. Give people access to their contribution.
Key words here Reb, " You should have access to every dime YOU put in......." Problem with SS is way too many get checks who haven't paid in a dime.
The only folks that receive a Social Security benefit they didn't work and earn are dependent/surviving children, in some cases current of former spouses or surviving spouses. In all cases someone worked and paid into the system for that benefit to be paid to their family.
You may be thinking about SSI, which is basically a welfare program. Folks get that who have never worked a day in their life. Pisses me off too. Processing those claims is what I do when I ain't working on guns.
