Let's just say I've had 15 of Fords with the 6.7 motor. I've had more but let's just say 15. Out of 15 I'd say 7-8 had a lot of problems. One to three had minor problems and the other 4-6 of them I never turned a wrench on.
I've got a couple 2017-2018 6.7's every one of them as been in the shop for something. One seems to be doing real good and has only been in for recalls, etc so I need to be clear about that truck.. But there is another one.... this beauty won't go out of re-gen mode and had already has injectors and a injector pump. It is a certified POS. I'd say it has had about $15k in repairs if it were not under warranty.
My advice would be this... if you can afford to drive one under warranty get it. But if you think you are going to drive it around out of warranty get a gas truck. Unless you are using it to work out of or tow all the time... there is no way you can otherwise justify the repair bills that are headed your way on a diesel motor.
Own a couple diesels and you'll fully understand what I am talking about.
Not so "cool" to have one after you empty your wallet a few times. I honestly don't know how anyone drive around in one out of warranty. A $6-7k repair bill is not out of the question. I've done that several times but we use them to make money so that is different. To get some groceries that's not feasible but I consider myself very good with money and like to keep it. Not give it away. Especially for repair bills I know are inevitable and avoidable.
