I tend to agree with this, too. Truly good smoked pork or meat doesn't need rubs, marinades, slathered sauces before-during-after, or anything else IF it's done right and is good.

That said, I'm not against folks doing the rubs, marinades or slathered sauces if that floats their boats. Some are really good and I think it's good to try different things. I like a ribeye with nothing but salt and pepper cooked medium rare, but occasionally will mix up some low-sodium Dale's with a little white pepper and crushed garlic for a marinade.

But in general, grilled meat doesn't need stuff added to it.
