Some of ya'll don't think there are folks that poor in Alabama, what rock do you live under??? I worked Greene and Hale Counties for several years. I promise you there are folks that are poor as all hell, and too proud to work the system.

I used to carry squirrels to a twenty something year old black man to clean on halves. I carried him some ducks one day and he said he didn't do ducks but I might see a neighbor, Miss Estelle.

I went by her house. Ya'll in the country have seen ones like this. Old. Wood. Needed paint. Broom swept dirt yard with whitewashed rocks around it. I met Estelle and asked her about the ducks on halves. She agreed and I left. Picked em up next day all cleaned and washed, well, 1/2 of them.

She was near 70, raising half dozen younguns, none of them hers. Some grandchildren and some neighbor kids who got dropped off. Oldest girl was 19 and attending college in Tuscaloosa and working two jobs, and living at home. She didn't "play the system", but did cleaning jobs and such for money.

I'll bet she couldn't of raised $300 if her life depended on it.

I carried her every piece of meat from confiscated animals and donated some deer I killed. I took her 300 pounds of yellow catfish that was confiscated from some telephoners. She took some of it and distributed the rest to other poor families around Akron.

Damn fine hard working POOR woman.....

Ya'll that say a ticket should be written for ANY violation need to get put from under yer rock more often.....

1982 er so I spotted an old car parked off the Lock Eight road near Akron. There was small cypress pond back there. I eased out of the truck and walked to the water. I spotted a 50'ish black woman fishing, along with five younguns fishing around her. I approached them and all went quiet. She was of those old country folks that won't look up as you as they talk.

I noticed she had a gallon milk jug next to her near full of squirming 5-7 inch mudfish. I asked her what she was going to do with them She replied "we eats em"....

Any of ya'll that know mudfish and have tried to eat one knows how hungry someone must be to "eats em"...

I told em to careful of snakes and walked back to the truck...

Damn boys, now that is POOR.....l
