Whoa now! That ain't a new record yet. The gross green score is 193 and the net typical is 163, meaning it isn't a record. The net nontypical is 188. He's got to dry still, and even when he does, although a fantastic trophy, he isn't state record status.

It looks like he hit him a little far back. He probably **** a brick before he found him.

The deer was shot at approximately 60 yards (unconfirmed) in a bean field, which would account for the shallow penetration. It still had enough angle to get liver and drove into the lungs.

It's a heck of a deer for sure.

Yeah, just to put it in perspective that deer while definitely a pope and young book deer won't make B&C as either a typical or non-typical. Still one hell of a deer and if I was ever fortunate enough to kill one that big I could care less what book it makes.

Gross score is all that matters.....well really, the memory of the hunt, but for those that care more about score.....total inches is my preference. If he grew it, give it to him.

Man it is way early to start seeing posts like this! We have 3-1/2 months ahead of us here. Don't burn yourself out the first 2 weeks going after a brute like that. That's probably that biggest deer that guy will ever kill. Good deer for sure no matter what he scores plus a 60 yard shot to boot.

That is exactly why I go by SCI scores not B&C or P&Y.

Why penalize a deer for growing antler?

He is lucky he didn't loose that deer, 60 yards? I practice out to 60 yards, hitting the deer wouldn't be that difficult, but making a clean kill at 60 would be. A bow tech at a local sporting goods retailer told me he saw a 140" buck in Miss. last week at 90 yards, he said "if it would have come just 10 more yards I would have had him! I practice 80 yard shots!"
These guys are either extremely confident in their shooting ability or have never lost a deer before.

Loosing a 7 point at 13 yards quartering away and giving him 3 hours after a "perfect shot" has made me VERY picky on the shots I take.

I went to one of the seminars a couple years ago at the deer show in Birmingham and the expert giving the seminar was I think from leeds and use to have some fishing shows on local TV, can't remember his name to save my sole. He said he routinely made 100 yd kills with his bow.

Bloodtrail, I tend to agree with you as well. I can confidently shoot targets ate long distances. A live animal with sensory perceptions hundreds of times better than ours is a different story though. I don't take shots past 35 yards just simply due to the many factors than can determine the point of impact of the arrow. A deer standing at 45 yards, if alerted while arrow in flight, has enough time to move forward or backward with enough speed to completely get out of the line of fire. I don't care if you have the fastest bow on the planet. It still isn't going to outwit many deer at those ranges.

Kudos for him for taking this trophy though. Heck of a shot and heck of a deer.

That is a dandy buck no doubt. And I think it was one of the Wentzel brothers?? that said "net's are for fishing."

Now 'ole Turkeyleg here doesn't mind taking those longer shots . He's got bigger, well, he just doesn't mind taking them.
