I was watching a show last night or night before last…. that was talking about the latest breakthroughs in artificial intelligence. The biggest part of the show that I watched talked about how they designed “Watson” back around 2010 to compete on Jeopardy. They went into detail about how Watson was able to comprehend the original question by the terms that were used…..and then take those terms to search the entire internet for related topics…..at which point it categorized all the different data it gathered into related fields….. and then searched those fields for the most likely answer……at which point it honed that on down into a percentage based analysis of the data basically like a “phone a friend”…. just to be sure……. where it gave Watson a breakdown of the top 4 most likely answers in the form of A,B,C,D……where A was 94% sure of being right……B was 7%......C was 3% and so forth……….

But that wasn’t the part that really blew my mind…….It was when they said that he computed all of that in something like 0.2 seconds that I began to think…….Yeah, y’all might want to shut this chit down now before robots really do takeover. It has actually progressed far past that now. The one that they showed that’s designed to “debate” is even scarier to me because it actually shows the ability to learn from each debate and improve itself. What happens when the computer thinks it knows better than me about what I want it to do??? Rut roh……... loco

I hear you…..someone will likely have the answer of “just unplug them” too…..but what happens when you can’t just unplug it?......What happens when society is so wired into technology that shutting it off means “CRASH!!!!!”…… shocked cry crazy mad gun popcorn

Don’t get me wrong…..I ain’t losing no sleep over it tonight…….but it’s definitely plausible in the 100 year future. The crazy thing that I’ve come to accept though is that I don’t think we could stop it even if we wanted to. We are destined to keep discovering until it becomes our demise……..We’ll destroy ourselves in the end. Doesn’t that make perfect sense though when you think about the story of us eating from the fruit of knowledge in the garden of Eden????

Iffin you wanna take it even deeper…….this is the same stuff the Unabomber was railing on……He just had a horrible way of trying to tell folks about it……He thought technology was the debil…..Now he was definitely mentally ill in some ways but I can’t get past the fact of him having an IQ equivalent to Einstein as wekk…..All I’m saying is that he was probably right and crazy at the same time.

When it’s all said and done...., I’m getting up tomorrow and going to check some yote traps and letting the rough side drag………That’s just me though. grin

Yeah... Ol' Ted had a cool cabin in Montana, but he lacked people skills. grin

In all seriousness, there is a fine line between genius and insanity.

The thing that really scared me about the debating AI was that it was taking concepts like “morality” and putting it into some kind of mathematical algorithm……

Hold up now…..pump ya brakes…….Maybe the Amish were onto something…… grin

All kidding aside... And all religious connotation aside... I have given this considerable thought and I honestly think the if you follow though with this logically I think that eventually we will evolve into a race of robots.

Soon we will begin using artificial body parts and organs to extend human life.

Next we will figure out how to transfer human memories into a computer database or quantum computer.

Next we will be able to create an artificial human that has your thought processes, your memories, and basically your brain.

The the race of human robots will be able to replicate them selves and transfer memories, skills, compounding knowledge over generations and generations.

By this time the world will be running out of resources and we will need to colonize other planets and solar systems and even other galaxies.

This is where the new robot race will flourish. A several hundred year journey in a starship to another solar system will be nothing to a robot.

Then once on a new planet, all a robot needs is an energy source such as a sun to construct cities, replicate themselves and thrive. How long has Curiosity been on Mars now?

Sounds like Watson and his peers need to run for The House and Senate.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

We are very very far past the point of just unplug it will cause a crash. If Wall Street goes down and looses the backups many world wide will be in soup lines within 6 months.

Google had two AI computers. Google pulled the plug on both when the two AI machines invented their own language so that they could not be understood by their human handlers.

Face recognition, self driving cars, etc. All AI driven.

Hate to nit pick but it's sort of a big difference, it wasn't "the fruit of knowledge" but the "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" Gen 2:9. God certainly always intended for man to gain knowledge, just not the knowledge of good and evil, and yes, you're right, we've been working on destroying ourselves ever since.
