A hardhead fin stuck in the foot is one of the worst things you can experience. Much, Much worse than a freshwater catfish. The striped fish you caught was probably a juvenile black drum. There are plenty in the surf and they have the stripes like a sheepshead. Another thought: You could take some small spinning reels and put gotchas or sprot jigs on and take the boys to the pier at Gulf Shores. A good variety of fish to catch there. Peach, you think we will catch any redfish or trout off the dock on Little Lagoon? If it's not lighted, buy a couple of those portable construction lights and turn them on facing the water the first night. By the second night you should be able to wear out some trout/reds/flounder on a free lined live shrimp. My other favorite bait is a jerk bait rigged on bass hook with no weight. It'll jerk across the light like an injured fish.
