A hardhead fin stuck in the foot is one of the worst things you can experience. Much, Much worse than a freshwater catfish. The striped fish you caught was probably a juvenile black drum. There are plenty in the surf and they have the stripes like a sheepshead. Another thought: You could take some small spinning reels and put gotchas or sprot jigs on and take the boys to the pier at Gulf Shores. A good variety of fish to catch there. Peach, you think we will catch any redfish or trout off the dock on Little Lagoon?
