Tinkering with a video camera mount for my bow, so I can teach Shaw how to kill a deer.

Anybody else use one?

I'm building my own. Two aluminum plates with rubber gasket between the stabilizer and mount.

I'll post up a picture when I get it done.

Make sure you keep the camera pointed away from yourself laugh

I tried the mount from cabelas one time and returned it due to the shock on my camera. I recently purchased an epic cam from bass pro, it has a shock absorbing mount that you attach to the stabalizer with a velcro strap. It also comes with waterproof case, hat clip mount and a screw for a tree mount. it uses two AA batteries and up to a 4gb memory card. So far I like it.

That's one reason I'm building my own. Mine will have two sets of vibration dampeners, between the camera mount and the bow mount.

I made one for mine...very simple. Most small mini DV cameras are a standard 1/4"x 20 threaded for the tripod screw. I just bent a piece of 1/4" all thread and added a wingnut to snug the camera and the same on the other end for the bow where the stabilizer screws in. On the bow its 5-16"x18 if I remember right...Shaw would know. I just put a coupling nuts to go from 1/4" to 5/16". Its about a 2 dollar project.

With all that I dont use it....think it will mess up my shooting....LOL

I made my own last fall kind of like the allthread design that was mentioned; but I used a magnetic drill bit reciever to hold the camera. It allowed u to grab the camera and use it hand-held when u wanted to without unscrewing it...I found that to be pretty handy. It worked pretty well and I shot fine with it, but I didn't build it until late December after I'd quit shooting deer.

Yours sounds much more refined Outback - I look forward to seeing it

I've got it finished, waiting on some glue and paint to dry before I mount it.

I'll post a picture tomorrow night.

It looks real good, hope it works as good.

Looks good man. I really like that camo job. What is the actual frame made out of?

My camera has a small remote with it. I had it velcro patched to the outside of my bow handle where my finger tips touch so I could zoom in and out after I'd drawn. It worked fine - my problem is that I get to nervous to do anything extra when I need to

Im using a Go Pro with the Head strap mount for POV shots. Tried a couple Bow mounted options but I couldn't compensate for the vibration on the shot well enough to even see the arrow flight
(with lighted knock) as anything other than a red blur. Additionally, I tend to drop the bow down after the shot and lose sight of where I was aiming with the camera. You could follow "after the shot" by continuing to point the bow at whatever you shot at, but, I couldn't seem to do that very well. With the head strap mounted Go-Pro you see the arrow flight well and then tend to naturally keep eyes on the target after the shot, hence, keeping the camera on the shot.

Go-Pro not the ultimate solution though. There is no "zoom" on the camera and the "fish-eye" lens on it makes it tough to distinguish objects out past about 20 yards.

I've recorded plenty of my practice shots with the head mount system but nothing in the field yet. But, tomorrow I hope to get some footage as I will be firmly planted in a tree stand.

If Go-Pro had a decent Zoom, I think it would be a really practical solution for solo filming the shot and its results.

Just my 2 cents

Ron
