A circular saw is way thicker than 1/32. You’re just fooling yourself if you’re trying to be that accurate. My first thought.

I’ve never used 32’s. But I’ve noticed in my construction life that most folks don’t know that there is 32 thirty seconds in a inch. I've been to a couple of county fairs and Jackson county but, I can't say that I knew that there was 32 thirty seconds in a inch either  This probably would have been a better aldeerism. There are a combination of 32 short and long lines total in an inch.

I can almost routinely cut along the edge of a fine point pen mark and leave half the line without getting off the line across a full 4' wide sheet with a skillsaw. I'd say that is about a 32nd tolerance, maybe less. Nuttin to it.

I don't measure to the 32nd of an inch but when I am measuring tight I will mark it fat between the 16th's to compensate for the thing-a-majig on the end of the tape. I also glue that thing so it won't move because it will move enough to mess you up.

I don't measure to the 32nd of an inch but when I am measuring tight I will mark it fat between the 16th's to compensate for the thing-a-majig on the end of the tape. I also glue that thing so it won't move because it will move enough to mess you up. That movement of the stop/hook is there for a reason. The amount of slack should just about equal the thickness of the stop/hook. It allows you to get a reasonably close measurement whether you are measuring an inside (pushing against) or an outside (hooked on and pulling) measurement.

When I'm concerned about accuracy on a measurement, I usually burn an inch.
I know rod is a surveyor length, no sure how much.
I think a cubit is the length from elbow to tip of finger

Also the trim man I worked with would always say 1/16 plus.

I am carpenter dumb and I've never thought about fixing the stop/hook in place. I have however always wondered why it was loose. Like I said I am carpenter dumb but I always thought if measuring an inside corner "pushing" then cutting the needed piece and getting the measurement by "pulling" would leave you with some difference. Not enough to make difference in my case because it looks like I let a kindergartner mark it with crayons by looking at my cuts.

There ain't a framing contractor in the US of A that uses 32nds. If they say they do it's only to be polite while your son is there. I guarantee you on a job site the measurements won't be called out to the saw guy as 106 & 15/32, it will be 106 & 7/16 and cut it a C**t hair long. That's standard lingo around every single framing crew I've ever been around.

There ain't a framing contractor in the US of A that uses 32nds. If they say they do it's only to be polite while your son is there. I guarantee you on a job site the measurements won't be called out to the saw guy as 106 & 15/32, it will be 106 & 7/16 and cut it a C**t hair long.
