I got hung up on Travis Otto post. That's a sad situation. But the cheater. Needs his nut sack thumped. It takes a whole new low life to cheat in a tournament.

Can't see the facebook post but I would assume it is the Laine Cooley kid. He was caught for 100%. Long story short we fish out of riverside marina but the kid always puts in at Riverside Landing (old d&s ) to get away from the traffic is what he said. Tourney director had gotten a pic text of the kids truck and trailer at Sugarland Lakes earlier in the day so on a hunch he waited at d&s to see if the kid would show up. The kid pulls in 1 hour before the tourney and starts getting ready to put the boat in. Director walks over and asked him if he was fishing with us and he said yes he would be over at the other ramp shortly. Director says well let me go ahead and do a livewell check since we are here. The kid has 3 fish in the well for 15+ lbs. It snowballed from there.

The lure of money is tough for some to overcome. Pretty sad.
Thing is, sounds like the guy doesn't think he did anything wrong and/or it's no big deal. Sorta like those guys in Guntersville a few years ago.

what a pos. will he face any legal consequences? I’m pretty sure those two good ole boys on Guntersville a couple years ago got felonies and did some time. It’s flat out stealing. No difference at all to me.

No difference at all to me. No. No consequences except that hopefully people keep him out of tournaments. He never cheated because he never entered or weighed the fish. They should have marked his fish and let him weigh in or something. If you follow em around enough they eventually get the message and vanish or move to another lake.

They were found guilty, given a years probation and jail time, but they appealed. Later, the one that was a member here admitted to it, and served his probation. He called everyone he fished against and apologized and has even donated things to the tournament to give away (still doesn't make it right) The other guy still hasn't gone back to court.

Ben I don't understand either why they didn't let him go ahead and pay then check his livewells.

Was told by GW that they would have to be the ones to follow and or mark the fish. Director was planning on following him the entire tourney if he showed up but after talking to GW I don't think there was enough time to put it all in the works. Not sure if the kid was gonna keep them in the livewell or put them out somewhere before hand and go back for them. Director said he just wanted to make sure that he didn't have a chance to cheat again.
It has also been said that he was banned from Inland tourneys for the same thing. Heard he was bragging about having fish in a cooler stored in a rod locker to get by the livewell checks and the wrong person heard him say it.
No penalty for him other than ruining his name and the potential beating he will get when the right person catches him out.

To allow him to weigh an illegal fish, then bust him. The fish would have to be marked for ID. No crime until he gets a check. This kid is toast. Good riddance. Tournament directors should refuse any entry money. if not they're gonna get him hurt. There was a father and son in mobile for years. There were always suspicions. If they could win a 10 fish tournament with 7 of theirs, that's all they brought. they never emptied their live well, they had a camp in the Delta with a fish basket. They never fished in draws. Yep, everyone suspected them.

Had one where the decided to swap it up a little. Every one got to the ramp we drew for partners. It was funny we went from a 18+ sack winning to 9lb. Sack. I don't care who you are. When you fish a small lake like bear creek. You are not going to weigh in 20lbs 6 nights a week.

Fun little lake to fish!

It does have some big fish. We caught several 7+. Normally you a 5lb with 4 keepers with a total of 7lbs. lol especially after the water gets hot. But now that lake will have about 9 tournaments a week on it.

I can't believe this thread isn't longer. Not much to say. No proof the kid cheated, his word vs theirs since he never used those particular fish. But as usual where there is smoke in fishing their is always fire
