One of my best bucks came on a windy day...about 15-25 mph. It was too windy to be in the stand...my head and stomach couldn't take anymore! I stalked slowly into the wind. I jumped a nice 9 point and 3 does in an area we call the rock faces. They are open, flat rocky areas with sage and scrub oak (under 6') spread throughout. I'd move slowly and cautiosly, trying to avaoid snapping twigs. When I did snap a twig, I'd burp like a buck.
They jumped out if a scrub oak tangle that was in the sun. The does ran off. The buck ran 30 yards and looked back at me over his back. Dropped him at 75 yards. Great hunt!
