I think a lot of it comes down to the owner. I also think pits are a more aggressive breed. I mean their purpose of being bred was to fight other dogs and hog hunt. Back to the owner part, it's how much time do you want to put in training and teaching the dog discipline. For me, not a lot. That's why I won't ever own a pit, German Shepard, Doberman etc. I'm fine with my Weimaraner and Weenie dog.
For the most part your right. Behavior test have them pretty far down the list as far as aggression is concerned. But as far as the breeding part goes. Sure they breed the more animal aggressive dogs, but they culled the human aggressive ones for 2 reasons. It'll get a dog killed in the ring and second it's too hard to handle for refs and owners. It was a very undesirable trait. To even be registered, they had to be a grand champion, meaning they won 3 fights. It's almost impossible for ahuman aggressive dogs to do that.
