I think a lot of it comes down to the owner. I also think pits are a more aggressive breed. I mean their purpose of being bred was to fight other dogs and hog hunt. Back to the owner part, it's how much time do you want to put in training and teaching the dog discipline. For me, not a lot. That's why I won't ever own a pit, German Shepard, Doberman etc. I'm fine with my Weimaraner and Weenie dog.
We had 2 Dobes growing up and I’ll be honest, outside of teaching them some basic obedience, we didn’t train them all that much. We had 11-12 kids in our neighborhood that were within 4 years of each other so their training was growing up around a lot of people (aka being very well socialized). They played with all of us nearly every day. They are much much more even tempered dogs than people realize but they get shy easily if they haven’t been socialized.
