Whoever was ridiculous enough to.compare the seat belt law is clueless. Seatbelt law is NEEDED because some idiot doesnt belt his children in and they die in wreck. My paramedic nephew has pronouced 3 children in last 3 months because their idiotic parents didnt put seat belts on them. Crap one parent lived because they wearing their seatbelt.

To clarify, I was on a state committee that lobbied to get the mandatory seat belt law passed and it had nothing to do with the idea of saving you from yourself. It was passed to keep the rest of us from having to pay for your long term medical care because you wouldn't wear a seat belt and are stuck in a wheel chair for the rest of your life. I can't recall the $$$ amounts but it is staggering. If it were feasible to pass a law that says if you don't wear your seatbelt, the injuries are on you and the insurance companies and state are not liable for a penny of your medical care, we would have lobbied for that, but alas, that was never going to be an option.
Also, I will be honest and admit that it was tied to receiving federal grant money and the state would have lost a ton of cash if it wasn't passed.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
