This guy isn't winning many fans... Winning fans? Ha, he is only creating enemies by his ineptness. Being critical of the survey and saying it is worthless (I.e you guys before me were stupid). Regardless of your thoughts, you might not want to start throwing prior administrations, retirees, hunters, landowners, and my guess is your own staff biologists and wardens all under the bus at the same time. I can't imagine he has a lot of support among the supporting personnel at this point. Sure he probably has support among his elite buddies. You know the "poor" ones that hunt around the country with each other.

I will just go ahead and say it. Charles Kelly may have been right about a few things. fixed it fer ya. Corky was in over his head from day one. I'll make a prediction...IF Sykes pushes the "roadblock fix" for GC the Dept will go broke in a landslide of illegal search and seizure lawsuits.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I've always made an attempt to check my deer but this makes me want to tell them to catch me if they can.
We will burn that bridge when we get there

I'll make a prediction...IF Sykes pushes the "roadblock fix" for GC the Dept will go broke in a landslide of illegal search and seizure lawsuits. He's going to let the CAB push it. He thinks that will protect him. Blake the group and not the individual. I say it's coming because he is desperate. Time will tell. He needs to take some advice from someone who deals with the public whom ever that may be. Right now, the natives are restless in the hunting community. Better keep it in the hunting community because if it gets into the nonhunting community (roadblocks) the spot light of shame gets a lot brighter.

Another thing, I may view it wrong but I hope he pushes the roadblock thing. That will be some tremendous entertainment on Aldeer and if the media choses to pursue it....the illegal search and seizures will bring Aunt Beas attention.

I will just go ahead and say it. Corky Pugh may have been right about a few things. As much as Corky and I argued and fought one another, I kinda wish he was back now. Always be careful what you wish for, you might get it. Riley Smith once told me that he didn't like me very much, but he respected me because he always knew where I stood. Corky was that way too, you never had to read between the lines, he just said what he thought.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Does someone still have the CAB notes from the season extension meeting handy that were posted on here about last fall when we were in a heated discussion on this very subject? There's some dandy Chuck quotes in it. I can't find it. I think I know where you are headed with this and recall the same things you do. But I don't believe, the way I read it anyway, the Tusc. article is a quote from Sykes on the season extension. What we saw on here several months ago was what he said. Sounds like the writer of the Tusc. article was putting stuff out there he didn't say. But, I could be wrong. Another thing, he didn't say the part about filling out the harvest on the BOTTOM of a license. He would have pushed the app thingy. We won't have to look far to find some Chuck flip-flops .

This was my favorite line "“As poor as I am, I’ve hunted out of state and I’ve been tagging deer and taking deer to check stations for more than 20 years,” Sykes said."
Do we need to start a GoFundMe page so poor ole Chuck can feed his family? Saying stuff like this is just another of many examples showing how out of touch Sykes is with the vast majority of hunters. I sincerely believe he thinks that hunting is still a sport for kings and other nobility. Yep he didn't help himself out with that comment...

For the 15% of y'all lazy tinfoil hat black helicopter flying dudes please use the game check so Chuck don't have to get tuff with the rest of us. It only takes 26 seconds this should be simple for a helicopter pilot. Is 45% the number he is looking for 15% plus the 30% that do comply with gc, will that satisfy him thats the way it sounded or was he calling 15% of the hunters dumb. I must fall into the dumb because it takes me alot longer than 26 seconds because i cant get the flippin app to work and have to call it in.

"Alabama’s deer hunting regulations have been relatively lax for many years. For decades there was no season limit on the number of deer that a hunter could harvest, only a daily bag limit of one buck per day. It was only in recent years that the state limited hunters to three bucks per years."
Wow, just Wow!!!!! Amazing, absolutely amazing how incorrect via agenda this is!!
>>>>>>There was one buck per day with limited doe days (i.e. limit on does) with expanding and thriving deer numbers for decades!!!! Then under the brilliance of the DNCR and the "you can't kill enough does" trophy management crowd it became limited bucks (3 for those stupid hunters, yes verbalizing what Chuck is thinking) and 2 does per day for a few years then one doe per day all season and the once expanding and thriving deer herd tanks!!! Then Chuck blames the hunters for not hopping on his bandwagon of FORCED compliance so they can make up more laws, regulations, requirements and threatens the hunters!!! How does he justify his job???<<<<<<< I think your last paragraph (I broke it up for you) hits the nail on the head. Sykes doesn't accurately recount the history and fails to acknowledge the past mistakes that the DCNR made by having wide open doe killing (and the buck a day rule that has been corrected a long time ago). And the DCNR certainly does not need a 100% accurate 100% participating GC to know that the DCNR made that terrible mistake. In the internet age and the Age of Aldeer (new phrase and acronym - AOA - Age of Aldeer) the DCNR KNOWS what is really going on with the deer herd in our state. ************** While I agreed with the 3 buck rule and still do, Sykes following statements makes absolutely no sense whatsoever: “We’re estimating that 30 percent of the deer hunters are complying,” Sykes said. “But what if it turns out to be 70 percent and this is all the deer we’re killing. Then we’d need to cut the bag limit. But what we believe is that if we get the data, we can give hunters more.” How in the heck does underreporting in GC have any logical relation to Sykes' above statement about the bag limit??? What logic is it that if the 70% of the hunters report their kills to GC that " THEN we'd NEED to *cut* the bag limit." ???? Logic would dictate the opposite conclusion - increased bag limits not reduced limits as that would be proof that the actual harvest numbers are way way less then ever estimated in the past. Or the statement that " IF we get the {real} data {then} we can give hunters more {bag limits}" ??? >>Both of those statements make no logical sense whatsoever. And the first one contradicts the second one in terms of reasoning - in the first he says a higher reporting would mean reduced bag limits and in the second statement he says increased reporting would mean higher bag limits. ******************* As others have said it seems to me that Sykes takes this whole thing entirely personal and he clearly has a one man dictator mentality, and he cannot see the mistakes that he is making or the past ones that the DCNR made. And because of this, I will have to restore to a part of my avatar that Sykes has a dictator mentality like Vladimir Putin. Yeah, I tried to be kind and deleted it awhile back, but now it is coming back. ******************* Also, if this guy is thinking that ordering gamewardens to do a bunch of road blocks around the state or "staking out" deer processors (good grief) is going to solve his personal problem then he is a total nut job. And Troy is right, there is going to be a ton of lawsuits filed over that.

He's trying to play both sides by saying GC compliance will increase and decrease the kill limit. Some want more bucks and some want less. It will eventually will come to 1 buck a year. Chuck wants it to be like a lot of the big deer states,WHICH BAMA will never be. The only way to get numbers back up like the good ole days imo is to decrease total bag limit, including does just for example 3 deer 1 buck 2 does for a five year period and a shortened season .Then re evauate GC and hopefully by then they will have GC figured out. But only 15-25% would abide by this. Just like the 30% that are abiding with GC now or are they. What if Chuck is not giving us the right numbers to actually cut the bag limit to 1 or 2 bucks a yr. Just something to think about.

LOL. But everybody else is just lazy.
“It’s laziness,” Sykes said. “About 15 percent of them are wearing tinfoil hats and looking for black helicopters. But the rest of them just don’t want to do it.”

Just something to think about. You say only 15%-25% would comply with new limits. I totally agree but have no idea what the % would be. But why can he not see people are ignoring him on GC and at least that many will ignore a lower limit. He keeps throwing the threats of shortened season and lower limits out there. There is a reason hunters aren't raising hell about those threats. I say to him, put up or shut up. Reduce the season and lower the limits. Let's see what you got. Do it. Show us how much power you have. Until you follow through with the threats it's just words from a lame duck commissioner.

Sykes is fixing to get stupid. Mark my words here. But would you predict he will ride the GWs so hard for more GC tickets out of his desperation that he will create a divide there? Or does that fall under fixing to get stupid?

Look at it this way only the law abiding hunters are going to comply with GC anyway so it doesn't matter if it's 1 or 5 a yr. limit. He' gonna get what he wants if he can sway the right people. It's like the shortened doe season in Limestone County I see 15-20 does a sit when I hunt Jackson I may see 1 doe a sit if lucky. I believed the right people swayed him in Limestone region.

If I read your post correctly , you are the exception in both counties. Many say they can't see deer in Limestone and they're behind every tree in Jackson.
