There have been less than 60 black bear fatalities recorded in the last 100 years. I grew up with black bears around and have heard of plenty on people's porches, eating out of their bird feeders, getting in their trash, ad other encounters, but I never knew of anyone being hurt or killed by one, much less eaten by one.
Of all the things in the world to be scared of, a black bear is low on my list.
