Do the doctors know if they will be able to prevent any more episodes? The medicine she's on, and will be taking for a while, is basically a chemo drug but it does not have any of the bad side effects. IT has a really good track record in preventing this particular thing. Basically it shrinks the cysts down until they eventually disappear all together. They said it will make them less frequent and less severe when she does have a flare up, so that it shouldn't require hospitalization.

Update on Maddie:
She did good last night off the vent with only supplemental oxygen in her nose, and we all got some much needed sleep. Her tongue is still swollen, but it seems to be improving a little each day. The ENT doctor came by this morning to check in on her and agreed she seems to be improving. He said realistically he would expect to be here through the upcoming week, as we have to make sure she is not only breathing properly but also able to eat/drink and swallow without any issue. He said there's always a chance she could improve quicker than expected but plan on at least another week.

Asking for complete healing of the swelling, with easy treatments and simple solutions.
Asking for all who oversee her care to be guided by the Holy Spirit with complete wisdom and knowledge of proper treatments to be given to her.

UPDATE:
Maddie continues to improve, slowly but surely. She is supposed to be moved to a "special care" unit today (a step-down unit from ICU before going to a regular room). Tongue is still swollen but is slowly returning to normal. They're planning on doing a swallow study, probably tomorrow, to see if she can handle eating/drinking - that will be what determines when she goes home.
The ENT doctor that's been handling her case is optimistic because only the front end of the tongue is really swollen...the back of the tongue, and down the throat is not swollen, just from about the middle of the mouth forward. Right now the biggest thing we're dealing with is withdrawal from sedation medication that she was on for a week. They weaned her off of them and she's taking something else that's supposed to help with withdrawals, but whew.........she is PISSED that they won't let her leave. But, she has always been kinda feisty, so it's good to see a little bit of her attitude returning.
