The autoimmune thing was discussed but the Rheumatologists pretty much ruled that out. They are "pretty certain" it's the Veno Lymphatic Malformation deal, and said the MRI will say for sure, just won't be able to et it until probably Monday.
Prayers for y’all Gomer. So they’re gonna leave her nasally intubated until Monday because they can’t do an mri until then? Id be in the dr.’s ear so fast on that he’d take her up and do it himself. That’s total bull crap. It makes me want to come raise immortal hell for you. That place claims to be world renown for patient treatment/care and is a level one trauma center. No way in hell should they leave her intubated that long when they could run her up there and do it. I’d be asking some questions. They ended up being able to intubate her normally instead of through the nose. She'll have to be intubated until the swelling goes down regardless of the MRI, because as long as there's swelling, her airway is in danger of closing. They're actively ting to manage he swelling, it's just slow going. I have no problem getting after a doctor or nurse I feel isn't getting it done (I got sideways with a few here when GomerJr was here his first time) but I on et that impression with these. Better to have an established airway now than try and get one if things go south. I understand Jonah's concern the less amount of time on a Ventilator the better.

UPDATE: ENT came back yeaterday afternoon after finally being able to consult with Interventional Radiology and study the images together. I said they cannot drain the cysts the way ENT was hoping, so hat option has been ruled out. That leaves treating it with oral medication or surgery. ENT really REALLY doesn't want to do surgery bc surgery on the tongue is pretty invasve, even as surgeries go. So, at this time the plan is to treat with steroids and this other medication, the name if which I can't recall.
Her tongue is still swollen, though not as bad as this past weekend. They're hoping it will continue returning to normal so hat we can take her off the breathing tube and let her totally wake up (and go home). If the swelling doesn't go down pretty quickly, we would be looking at a temporary tracheaotomy to ensure she can breathe safely while waiting for the tongue to return to normal. Again, this would be a temporary measure but we REALLY don't want to have to go that route for obvious reasons.
So, please continue to pray for Maddie, and specifically that the swelling goes down significantly over the next few days so she can get back to life as usual.

My heart goes out to you and your wife. Trust that God will guide the doctors and Maddie will have a full and quick recovery. Thoughts and prayers from the Browers.

Keeping Maddie and your family in my prayers.

Know you're in good hands. Also know that she's stronger than you too! Kids are so resilient.
Hope you are able to head home soon.

Childrens can be the best and most frustrating place. We have 2.5 year old triplets and they have combined spent more than 1.5 years in childrens. I have seen the good bad and the ugly of that place.
Their #1 weakness is communication between the massive amounts of drs and staff that rotate constantly. Communication between different departments break down frequently as well. If you ever feel like they are not listening or are not communicating or following the plan properly, ask for your social worker and request through the social worker that a conference be set up between each department to make sure everyone is hearing your concerns and on the same page. These are very common and there are conference rooms in the hallways of each floor for these very reasons. We have had several of these and even had to call CHAT team before. As long as you are respectful and direct these things can help.
As far as a "temporary" trach goes, i would ask a lot of details about that. While trachs/ stable airways are great, once they get a trach they are not quick to remove one. One of our children got a trach that was supposed to be for a very short time and she has now had one for over a year. They can be very limiting on who can watch your kids, where you can go etc.. They are not nearly as scary as they seem up front but i would question them with great detail on what they consider temporary and what could cause it to not become temporary. I would really question ENT hard on that.
I love 90% of the drs we have dealt with and the surgeons are top notch. We have been on every floor except the cancer floor and communication is always the weakness of childrens. If you have any questions of frustrations feel free to pm me. It is easy to lose your mind in that place. You have to take turns getting some time away and try to unwind.
