Ol dad went to the club a few times and staked a couple out. Then checked up on them yesterday evening from a half mile away with the spotting scope to make sure they were still on script. Unexpectedly they got up in the air like they were spooked and flew about 200 yards down the powerline. I was kind of worried about it because it was a good hour and a half before dark and I thought it was odd they went to roost so early. So this morning Heather and I go get in a blind on the field that I had set up just for her a couple weeks ago. We get in and set up and shortly after daylight one sounds off down the powerline. I already know they are roosted not far and are using the field so I got my box call and gave one yelp and put it back in my vest. She and I go over some last minute details and I hear the turkey fly down. A few minutes go by and I hear walking in the hardwoods to our left. I peek out and see that big white softball head coming through the woods. He slipped out into the field and strutted about 80 yards away for 15 min or so. He finally breaks and makes his way to the DSD that I debated putting out but finally did. He got in her shooting zone and I was trying to film it. She started crying and saying she couldn’t do it (shoot the shotgun because she gets anxious). With the bird at 30 yards I had to turn the camera off and have a little pep talk with her. I got the camera back on and told her to shoot and about 30 seconds later she smoked him. She started crying and jumping around and that was probably the most excited I’ve ever seen her.
