He checked me last year in a downpour, so he's not afraid to get wet. Was leaving a ground blind as he was entering the ground blind we almost had a head on collision..

What did the op not disclose? He was honest with the warden and the warden believed him or he would have checked his ass. The warden knew he was an honest hunter and chose not to check his son. He plainly said flat out the warden was very nice and did his job. Not one part of the ops post was negative misleading or derogatory towards the warden or the job he did. I really don’t understand why he made an account to make the comments he did but that’s his and the ops business. Being the last day or the first day of season doesn’t matter they are employed by the state to make sure people don’t ruin and abuse our natural resources. I am related to one of the shittiest ex gws in Alabama and I even appreciated what that douche canoe did for years. People will bitch about a gw check but gladly comply to an illegal traffic roadblock in a heart beat because it’s for the good right?

As PCP said the way they handle a corn report up here is they go in and find the corn nd then catch the personhunting over it. I don't understand walking up and asking if there is any there.

What was the condition of the doe at the gate? Was she skint? Is front gate close to field? Just trying to figure why one thought it was poached deer and other thought it was shot on bait pile.

Also, the hunter’s “ area” was not disturbed as he was checked in a shooting house close to his truck and had just arrived at the stand, nor was his son checked that afternoon as I did not wish to disturb the hunt any further on the last day. I gave the benefit of the doubt and probably shouldn’t have and went ahead and checked the entire area. I always attempt to be professional and courteous. Also, I am a hunter and put people’s hunt into consideration before checking them, but the reality is, game wardens can’t always work back at the truck.

Duh...when else is a DNR officer suppose to check someone then when they are hunting or fishing? You think they have a job that allows them to just sit at a desk? Can not believe the OP's hunt was ruined if someone just walked to his blind, asked a couple of questions and then left. Anyway poster never said his hunt was compromised in any way. He was just sharing that he had been checked while hunting.

The deer was skinned. The only parts I saw there was the rib cage, guts, feet and hide. It had a bullet hole in it. There are some sage fields in the area, but not at the gate. We do not feed.
Some of the neighbors do. As far as I know they do it legally.

Anytime a person does something like leaving a carcus close to where it's visible by Joe public. It's gonna draw attention. Some people funny about stuff like that. A year or so ago. Somebody dumped to carcus' s close to my house by a bridge. Couple days later my buddy pulls up asking if them we're mine, and put in order for some meat. So we can't blame gw. I give him credit for being out there investigating in the rain. I hate working out in the rain.
A carcuss is good coyote bait. Should put in garbage bag, freeze, and hunt yotes after season, and then again when fawns are born.

Welcome AutaugaGW. Hope you remain as a member.

Dont be shy.

My last encounter with a warden is kinda funny to me. I left our gate open and got to climber well before sunrise, at about 830 i see someone walking up the road to the food plot next to the creek where my stand is. I see the person stop at the house and look up in it and see it is empty. Then he proceeds on down the road. He comes back out about an hour later. I assumed he walked to the other stands off the road. He just walked on out and when I came down and left at 11 he was gone.

To anyone who asks why I didnt alert him to my presence I would say that I didnt want to ruin my hunt. I dont bait, have a lifetime license, and the record sheet (and an ink pen). If he had seen something he was concerned about I assume he would have waited for me. I will add that as he walked down the leaf covered road he did not make any noise. Very stealthy.

I've talked to autaugagw a few times. Seems like a good guy with a lot on his plate, especially during the season.

The reports show he made 122 arrests from Dec 2014 thru May 2017. Several were for hunting over bait.

The report at the following link is an incomplete list of arrests by officer, but it shows a lot of them. McHenry's start on page 411:

They're not going to walk up to you at the gas station to ask if you have bait out.
Only at a license check at the highway crossroads...
