You don't have to pay to fish or hunt on your own land. If you got the land for free you don't. If you live out of state and own land in the state of Alabama, you have to pay your state land taxes as well as purchase a non-resident hunting license to hunt on your own land.

We should just police ourselves when it comes to managing our game and fish. Yep that will work. Let a jackass with a gill net wipe out the crappie in Lay lake and see how much hell will be raised. Honestly, I feel like the guy with a gill net came 2 years ago

There's a difference between Anarchism and Libertarianism.
We need basic common sense laws when it comes to conservation and government in general.
But, thanks to big gov politicians and judges that ignore the Constitution we have what we have today...a big political machine that is way out of control and a people that don't know any better.
To say that a lot of things shouldn't be but it's just the way it is, aint a good reason not to change things.
We are today exactly what most of the founders wanted to keep us from becoming. Okay, but now the goal posts are moving. The question was why should a fella have to buy a fishing license. If we wanted to point out corruption and inefficiency (which I agree, exists) that would be a different conversation.

You are right..I got off topic but the point I was trying to make is we dont realize as a nation how far we've come as far as government over reach.
I dont have a problem with hunting license because I have a choice whether to buy them or not but I just believe overall the more the state strays from the fundamental basics the worse things get.
When we figure it all up, most of the taxes and revenues collected are mismanaged and are wrong.
Itvs been proven with independent studies that the state and Federal gov could function with half the revenue they now collect, or extort.
We as individuals readjust all the time when we have to.
I support our Game & Fish Dept but I just dont think it's always managed right.
True, nothing is perfect but it cam always be improved.

Judges had even begun to refer to hunting as a privilege before the People cleared that up with the first Sportspersons Bill of Right amendment to our constitution back in the '90s. The DCNR still refers to hunting as a privilege on its website where licenses are sold, but that's wrong.
Think of how you put money in the bank for the bank to hold it in trust for you. You still retain ownership, but you delegate control of it according to the terms of your agreement with the bank. If the bank were to go above and beyond the terms of your agreement and start telling you how you could or could not use your own money, then you could step in and demand your money back. That's how constitutional and republican forms of government work. If you exercise your right and demand change, that's not anarchy. You're supporting your constitution.
If you've never read the Alabama Declaration of Rights, I recommend you read it with emphasis on Section 2.

Haven't bought a fishing license in 32 years and fish both fresh and salt water. Law's be damned is what I say. Have not received the first ticket either.

Consider yourself very lucky a far as the saltwater goes, I've been checked at least once a year for as long as I can remember coming in at Perido Pass. On a side note your a good man Matt.

I think laws that conserve our outdoors is a good thing. The state naturally has to have revenue to fund the up keep of public lands,ect.
The problem is the wheel has become an uncontrollable machine that goes beyond necessity.
When we have to have a permit or license, or pay a tax to exist maybe we will wake up.
Common sense game n fish laws are a good thing but we now have a system that is way out of control.
Sheepel being led by big brother and it's surprising the folks that don't even see it.

Well since the govt apparently own the wildlife, next time one of their deer runs into my truck they can pay to get it fixed. Maybe we can sue them to keep their deer on their property and quit letting them run loose and cause problems. The problem you have with this is the fact that the government owns the roads that you drive on SO their deer is in their road.

It’s like this, I’m tired of the govt telling me what I can or can’t do, when and how I can do something on my own property. I understand public property and the regulations are needed, but it just seems to me that a lot of times it comes down to greed and a way to get some extra $ out of those who go about things legally.
