Right on. Sounds like you just did your job. Keep up the good work

Will you be signing permits that allow hunting with the aid of bait now that deer season has ended?

Checking in just because a dead deer had corn spilling out it’s guts even though it’s legal to feed.... This is why we need to make it legal or illegal!!! This crap we got now is stupid, I wish it was back like it used to be and there would be no uncertainty’s

Thank you for your service and work, and for filling in the details that were left out. Please keep up the good work.

Your last line is the truth. GWs don't work at the truck. If you did, hunters would be crying and bitching about how the GWs never do their jobs.

Wardens have to continue to enforce the full laws as written. They don't get to pick and choose just because corn should be fully legal or fully illegal by our opinion. We as hunter are getting mad at the messenger. If you/me doesn't like the rules of the game we need to be mad at the legislators/chuck, not the wardens or biologists.

I have been checked four times in 30 years. All were in the field while I was hunting. Wouldn't expect it any other way.

Buds experience in the other thread without any other facts was unwarranted. Hopefully that doesn't happen to anyone else.

Thanks to the wardens for what you do in protecting and conserving our resources.

I don't see anywhere the original poster was complaining, so this isn't directed at him. However, did you guys read this? Are we really that put off because we are inconvenienced one time in 57 years?

Wardens exercise discretion all the time when they choose what to enforce and what not to enforce. In fact, their oath of office compels them to make those decisions. Constitution first, laws second if they comply with our constitution and the rules third if they comply with both. Why else would every individual game warden be required to swear in God's name to support our constitutions?

When our legislature and agency leaders violate their oath of office, then game wardens and all other peace officers have sworn to be the last in line to defend our constitutions.

I don't have a problem with any gw doing their job. What I have a problem with is the 100 yds and out of sight. Corn is either over 100 yds and out of sight or it isn't. It's the determination of the gw whether the corn effected the deers movement that I have a problem with. Unless they are Dr Dolittle, they don't know why the deer did what they did. To avoid the possible problem, and have to got to court and assume a judge would rule in our favor, we just don't put out anything during the season, problem solved.
We see plenty of deer on legally planted food plots.

You are spot on! The Warden was just doing his job! I retired after thirty years in Law Enforcement. It is a thankless job that is under payed! It ia a profession that is not for everyone. If everyone just plays by the rules there will be no problems. Its the guys and gals that dont is who the law abiding hunters should be pissed about, not the Warden doing his job!

Thanks for taking time to post; good to hear the story from your perspective.

The GWs in my county have always been courteous and respectful. What I have seen them do if they got a report of an area being baited was to examine the area when no hunters were around. If they found bait, they would give a ticket to anyone who later showed up to hunt. I have found bait in the woods before and reported it, and this is the way it was handled. Is there a SOP similar to this when bait is reported or suspected in an area?

We've seen several posts here this season of GWs walking in on hunters on a stand and asking them if they had out bait. I've never experienced that myself. Has department policy changed, or are all of these cases where we just don't know the whole story and there is strong suspicion something illegal is going on?

AutaugaGW you created this account and implied I made this post "stir up" a response. If you will look I have 3350 post on this board. It was not my intent to stir anything up. If you knew the history of this board you would know that the wardens have had the hell beat out of them for looking for corn and wrecking peoples hunt. My intent was to show other aldeer members that not every encounter is bad one. I thought you were completely professional and courteous and I never said anything other than that. Now to address the "all facts that were not posted".
I did not look at the deer dumped at the gate on the dirt road with corn spilling out of the guts as having anything to do with me. Why would I or anyone that hunts our place dump a deer at our own gate. We have go by and smell that crap! If you are using that, as a reason to check me, you need to put some more thought into it. It is 100 more times likely that a night hunter
or road hunter or something to that effect put the deer there. I also told you that I knew it was your job to look for bait and to look! You did not give me nothing(benefit of the doubt) I told you to look . I also told you there was not any bait . You would not have found any and you would have been soaked! As far as my son, he was totally legal . I told you in detail how to find him. We take pride in being ethical hunters and good citizens. You are welcome at our place. I gave you the comb. to all the gates.. If you come back ,you can count on being treated with respect from me and any other hunter there.
P.S I had his last name wrong it is Machenry (Spelling?)

Brent100 may have been my comment. In no way am I trying to disrespect his job because I’m sure it’s dangerous and difficult at times and it’s great to have a person that is in that line of work to help give insight to us hunters. I’ve been checked before but they didn’t walk in on me. Maybe some have reason to maybe some just do it without reason I don’t know. But as I said I would not be thrilled for a warden to walk in and greet me at my stand but would never be disrespectful but would ask why you had to do it that way. Maybe that’s just the way it goes and that’s how it’s done. You just hear several people comment that it’s the way they were checked and maybe we don’t always know all of the story. I would like to know his opinion on 100yrds and out of sight cause most I have heard of was a ticket. Maybe they were less than the so called rule and were not being honest. Not going to bash his view of the rule but would like to know where he stands on it.

I believe it was 7.years ago that I had one walk in on me. It was a wet soppy morning and I was running late on the way in so did not lock the gate to our lease behind me. He followed my tire tracks over a mile and a half out to my truck and then my boot tracks another half mile. When he got to me it was about 9 AM. He had on NO orange and skeered the chit out of me when he I first saw him coming through the woods. I waved my hat at him and he came to the base of my tree and hollered up asking if I had a license and to toss it down. Asked if I was hunting over bait and then walked about an 80 yard perimeter around my stand on top of the ridge. He completed his search and then Asked if I was going to continue to hunt or walk out with him....... I decided to come on out. Nice enough guy though. Couldn't tell you which county he represented however. I was literally on the line between fayette and Tuscaloosa county.
I understand the job of the GW is to make sure all are abiding by the law but seemed like a lot of trouble to randomly check a 20 year old kid at the time. And for safety reasons I cant imagine it would be legal for him to be walking around without any orange on.

I see you’re from Shelby County. Not sure if your hunt here but we have 2 great Officers in our county.
