I've got a Broning A-bolt with a big Nikon 50mm objective scope. It's perfect for ladder stands and shooting houses, but a little heavy and really not ideal for hunting out of climbers.
What ya think?

Remington Model 7 in 7mm08 or 308. Keep the scope to no more than 40 mm objective to keep everything light and compact. You'll love it.

I've got a Ruger M77 .270 with Leupold 3-9x50 on it...I love it!! it works great for stalk hunts, sitting on the ground, ladder stands, shooting houses, climbers, truck seats, ect..... All around great package!

Browning should be fine. That's my set up. Get you a youth model if you really want light and manuverable.

It handles well and is easy to carry.

Remington 7600 Carbine in .308 with a Zeiss 3-9x40
or
Weatherby Howa 1500 Ranchland Compact in 7mm-08 with Hogue overmold rubber stock topped with a Nikon 3-9x40
or
If in the thick stuff...Remington 870 12 gauge with cantelevered rifled barrel topped with Red Dot sight and shooting 3" Rem. Buckhammer slugs
Or something else that is short and easy to handle

I don't understand why it is not good for climbing stands but is OK for ladder stands. Pull gun up by a rope and either lay it across your lap or hang it on a hook in the tree until you are ready to fire. What am i missing? A heavy gun is one I would consider that is not ideal for stalk hunting not stand hunting.

Abolt in standard calibers is OK for treestands and timber hunting. Shot one for years,smacked a bunch of grown uns with an Abolt in 30-06 and 7mm-08. No use for anything with Mag behind it for hunting in timber. Too long and heavy. Same goes for any scope that looks like a Hubbell Telescope. Sako Finnlite .308 W/ Leupold VX3 2.5-8 Heavy Duplex, now that's the ticket.

It depends what kind of terrain I'm watching. I like a short light rifle for woods hunting out of a stand. If I'm in a tree watching a cutover, I'll carry something made for longer ranges. I will put a 50mm on a heavy rifle but my light rifles have 40mms or less on them. Most people can get by with just one rifle. I'm not one of those people.

If im hunting timber, ruger 44mag with nikon monarch, for longer shots, rem 700 7mag. Same scope 50mm obj.

Hell I use a Rem 700P that weighs about 11 lbs and don't have any problem. You just looking to buy a new "Climbing Stand Rifle" aintcha.

What ya think? Same rifle I climb with (25.06) but with a 40mm nikon monarch. Works great for me. The one rifle does it all for me. I do have other deer rifles, but The others stay at home.
