You know years ago I heard Clunn speak on rods. All his except a couple were heavy or med heavy at least 7'. You adjust your line type or reel. The rod companies are genius. If you buy at least one rod for each type lure, depth, line, and technique. You'll need a separate boat to haul them. I really can't remember Clunns logic, it did how ever make sense. If you fear breaking a fish off because your rod is too stiff, back off on the drag. That's what it's there for. If you fish lakes full of cover, whippy rods only frustrate you. I remember several years in the late 70's early 80's, Guido should have won every spring TX on Rayburn. He came to Texas armed with a spinning rod ands tube lure. The only thing that stopped it from happening was those 6-8lb bass wouldn't come out of the flooded willows and buck brush. Thick cover requires strong rods and line.
