Sunday morning it was a little cold, my son was sitting in an exposed not very comfortable ladder stand. I texted him at 8:15 and asked when do you want me to come get you: now, 30 min, 60 mins.

He replied "30 mins"

I am sitting in a comfy shooting house. After 30 mins I look around, see nothing. I drag my backpack over on the floor, start packing, moving around, making some noise, look back to my left and 60 yards away there is a young buck staring a hole in my stand. In front of me ~ 25 yards is a 6yr old stand of pines, can't see inton them anymore, but to my left are older pines that I can see through. He walked out of the small pines into the big pines. Was he just walking or did my movement cause him to come check out the noise?

This seems to happen far too often for it to just happen that the deer appears when we are making noise. Are they coming out to see what it making the noise, or is it just coincident?

That was the only deer than any of us saw that morning.

One year in Monroe County the day after deer season, I stuck around to kill some squirrels. About an hour after starting I kept hearing something following me. It would stop when I did. I walked fast then hide behind a big oak. It was a big fat doe! how did she know she was safe?
In Troy I was in a pop up during the rut. A spike stuck his head thru an open window, looked around. Then left, not spooked.
I've heard old timers say they hung a radio with music and killed deer that came to check it out. they are real curious to anything new that doesn't threaten them. If you spend time in the woods you will encounter animals doing crazy things. Without actual photos would you believe they'll stand on hind legs and fight?

They are very, very, curious critters.

Deer do weird stuff sometimes; once in early Feb I was doing some after hunt scouting; before the season was extended. Was riding in a Polaris electric Ranger with buddy and looked beside the road and noticed what I though was a dead deer 30 yds away. Then he raised his head and it was a nice 6pt.? I got out with my camera and took a pic, walked 5 steps closer and took another pic. When I got within 10 steps decided I was close enough in case he decided to get up. Cool pics. I guess he was exhausted from rut.

This sounds like a question for the experts on the the Alabama Deer Hunters FB group.

A friend was hunting my place one day when I couldn't go. He called to tell me a young eight point was following him down the woods road. Said the buck would stay maybe 50 feet away as he walked along. I told him not to bend over....

Walking to a greenfield once before the season and stopped to smoke a cigarette on the trail going in. 15 minutes later walking back out doe was eating the cigarette butt.

While sitting in my climber, I watched one walk up and poke its nose all over my trail camera.

Last year I had a huge bowl of taco soup before hitting the woods. After a couple of hours I let out a HUGE fart and within a minute or two a big doe stepped out and was staring at my stand. So I shot her for being stupid.

I told they guys at camp I grunted her up...

I had an old timer tell me one time that him and his dad used to take a candy bar wrapper and tie it to a limb a few feet off the ground and he said the deer would be so curious about what it was blowing in the wind they would walk right up to it trying to figure out what it was.

I swear I think a deer came in to smell my cough drops one time. I had a cough and wanted to go hunting so I bought a roll of the wild cherry cough drops. I was eating them fairly quickly to keep from coughing, had a small buck come out about 50 yards or so. It looked like he was smelling the air. I give him a dose of 178 a-max before I even knew what was happening but the afterthought was he smelled the cherry cough drops.

Along same lines, I had several deer come to a pile of sunflower seed shells under me I had spit a week or so ago

Deer are very curious. I was at a buddies house and we were just killing time so we took his truck to his back rye plot, shut truck off and sat. We had a group of 5 doe come within 5 yards of the truck. I kid you not. We're pretty sure we felt one bump the side of the truck. So I'd say that's normal what you experienced. They're much more Curious than many people say.

On a hunt in Russell county about 15 years ago, I had a very relaxed spike grazing on the small greenfield I was watching. I was in a 20 foot double ladder stand and time to call it a day was approaching. When time to climb down arrived, the little buick was only about 3 steps from the base of my ladder. I put my arrow back in the quiver, grabbed my pack, lowered my bow, and looked down at the field. The spike was standing about 5 or 6 steps from the base of my ladder looking up at me. I made a kissing noise with my mouth. He stood there. I did it again but louder. He stood there. I did it one more time and threw my arms in the air. He jumped and went about 10-15 yards and then immediately started walking back towards me until he was about 7 or 8 yards from the ladder, then lowered his head to eat. I made my best deer blowing noise while flailing my arms in the air and clanging my release on the stand. He half jumped half trotted 30 yds to the other edge of the field, stopped and looked for a moment and put his head down to eat. I climbed down. When I got to the bottom and picked up my bow I looked around and he had worked his way about 5 yards closer. As I disappeared down the logging road off the field, the naive little spike was still on the field, content to keep eating. 1-1/2 year old bucks have got to be the dumbest deer animals in the woods.
