I have a DPMS AR10 that my son is hunting with. It was originally for me but he has kind of taken to it. The issue I've noticed is that every time I chamber a round it is making a light mark I assume with the firing pin. I have checked it and it seems to do it every time. My son is only 9 and we climb and hunt together. It may be fine but I don't like the idea of it possibly going off when putting a round in. Here is a pic. Tell me what y'all think

If it's denting the primer at all, it's too much for my taste. That's a pretty solid little rap as it's closing to be doing that.

Looks like to me the firing pin is sticking out too far outside the bolt.
I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

I wouldn’t load that again until a qualified gun smith looked at it. WAY to much at stake to risk it.. IMO

That’s very common on all my ar type rifles. It’s the floating firing pin. If you put a magazine in and chamber and extract a round they all have that tiny dot from the firing pin. All mine do. Research more online to ease your mind though.

That’s very common on all my ar type rifles. It’s the floating firing pin. If you put a magazine in and chamber and extract a round they all have that tiny dot from the firing pin. All mine do. Research more online to ease your mind though. This it's perfectly normal

Every AR platform rifle ever made will do it

Primers should be seated about .003-.005 below the case head. If they are flush or protruding above the case head you can get a slam fire which could set off a chain reaction.

100%% normal, all my AR's (6.5 Grendel and .223) do this. As others have said, its due to the floating firing pin.

After reading this entire thread, 8 people say it's not right, 6 people say it's normal, hmmm? So, I go and check mine. It makes a very slight indention when chambered in my .223

Checked mine this morning. Colt 6920LE in .556 Chambered and unchambered 5 rounds each from three diff manufacturers ammo. Independence, Federal and PMC. Not a single round had even a scratch on the primer.
