Law enforcement is not saying if it was an accident or murder. Rumor around town is he ran into some locals (helping him hunt) his place.

All I am saying is to the people that think they don't need a pistol concealed when hunting and think carrying one is nutty might need to rethink it. A minor situation can turn into a major one in a blink of an eye.

I didn't see anything in your post that indicated that he needed an additional weapon concealed. You can carry as many guns as you want with you hunting, if it makes you feel safe.
I have walked up on a group of poachers before while hunting with a TC Contender. I was glad to have a 45 with me. The point I have tried to make is you never are expecting trouble when it finds you.

That's awful. That's the very reason I carry when I hunt. Its in case of a confrontation with a poacher.

Does anyone know who he leased from? Or the landowner where the incident occurred?

Makes the honest hunters look bad, and might make me think to have my rifle pointed at the chest of a trespassers till they walk off. But then that opens a whole nother can of worms. No good way to go about it. What would be the way to handle any person walking up to you while in stand?

Rumor I heard was he was having problems with the natives stealing his stands and stuff. They first thought that he had fell from his stand until they realized he had been shot with buckshot.

My suggestion if you are hunting in the kimbrough area and the native trespassing poachers come by, shoot to kill before they get the chance at you.

We will never know the real story but I wonder how they managed to get the drop on a man presumably in a stand with a loaded rifle. Only thing I can figure is there was a verbal confrontation while he found himself stranded in the stand in a fixed position. There are a lot of posts on here about how tough guys would handle a confrontation with poachers, but this brings to mind how some sub-humans will behave when they apparently have little to lose. Not that the victim here did anything to bring it on himself, but if one were deciding whether to escalate and handle a conflict themselves, youd have to keep the outcome here in mind.

I hope the people that did this get found and get the death penalty. Either through the law or otherwise.

Sounds like he was ambushed. A concealed weapon doesn't prevent that. Situational awareness can. If someone approaches you make it damn clear you intend to kill them. They are trespassers, not welcome guests.

He may have shot, could have been more than one. First one distracts him while the other sneaks up from behind? Idk just throwing that out there lots of unknown details. Hate it for his friends and family. Very sad and will definitely be on my mind next time I am walking into the woods alone

Most likely he was in the stand with a bolt action rifle and there were probably 3-4 of them walking deer up and shooting them with shotguns. Maybe he said something to them, threatened them or pointed his rifle at them for trespassing and said he was calling the GW. We most likely will never know. In any case, he was a sitting duck up in a tree like that. They probably shot him out like a squirrel. Maybe when push came to shove he lost his nerve and didn't pull the trigger and wasn't willing to take another human beings life and the lowlife thugs did. Just a sad sad situation.

I'd rather have any long gun than a handgun.

I learned a lot in military and one thing I know. A pistol is just a tool to fight my way to a long gun.

chad1980,

You may be correct about the location.
BUT, I feel certain it was across Red Creek from there.
All of the LEO vehicles were turning in on Willie Powell Road and none came down Gates Road.
Those bridges are out and the roads no longer connect.

I think that would have come out Chris, they would have made an APB to watch all doctors and hospitals. Plus blood would have been at the scene. We don't even know if his weapon was fired. I just pray the perp gets the chair. Screw ANY PAINLESS INJECTIONS. Hang the BAstard! OR TWO!
