Guys I've got a gas fireplace in my pool house that came out of the main house. We moved it before the first winter after we bought house. I've gotten it hooked up and the first time I lit it I came back and the room was smoky and it made me cough but the carbon monoxide detector never went off. I turned it off and haven't messed with it since. Well tried it again and now no smoke didn't make me cough, but like an hour later the monoxide detector was going off. I noticed the pilot light was flickering so I blew everything out good with air and it tripped it again, any ideas?

It's shut off and the gas company came out last fall and looked at it. Said it was too far from the pavement for a big tank. Adviced me on how to hook it up to a 30lb tank. It was used the same way in the house before we owned it and was never a problem. That's what I don't understand.

Open the windows and doors. Let it run for a while. Mine does that.

It's ventless, I think. This was my BIL house and I didn't think he had ever ran it because it was new but he said he run it all the time. I may try to run it some more tomorrow to see if it will clean up

Does it have a burner or do the flames come out of a pan full of sand. If its the sand one it's vented

If it's sat for a long time, it may be the initial layer of dust burning off.
