So this guy is caught on camera after being denied hunting right to a piece of property north of Jasper. He asked my wife's boss (who owns the property) and was sternly told not to hunt this property. After making a few rounds around the property recently two tree stands and a game camera were found and promptly confiscated. The guy's camera had an SD card which not only showed him going to and coming from the stands but also had family pics on it. It obviously was from a digital camera used around his house. Question is who do we need to inform? The local game warden for poaching or the sheriff's department for trespassing? Any thoughts?

Game warden. They can cover both areas. I believe a sheriff can to but always have better luck with gw

Warden. I had the same thing happen a few years ago. This dumbass had 3 cameras out with not only family pics on the sd cards but he also had pics of a wild weekend in New Orleans. Oh and the best pics were of him, his lady and a buddy of his decked out in camo toting rifles with laser sights. Mr. Thad Holmes busted their asses.

I will be happy when someone takes one of these guy to civil court and sues them for lease, taxes, hunting license, time, travel, food plots, etc. When one of these guys is hit with a $25,000 civil suit, word will get around.

What is Alabama law on this? Trespassing with a firearm in Texas, is a state jail felony. And not asking for a friend.

a Birmingham lawyer I know sued two poachers in civil court after getting convictions in Criminal Court. He won a $10,000 judgement against both of them.
Go home and tell yer wife you just got hammered to the tune of $10,000 for a hunting violation. LOL

Go home and tell yer wife you just got hammered to the tune of $10,000 for a hunting violation. LOL I've read of several cases like that in other states; glad to hear it's been done in AL too. I think you would need several documented violations to get a jury to award you much money, but just making them hire a lawyer and defend themselves would likely get their attention more than a misdemeanor fine. I would like to see the pictures too, but posting them might be risky to yourself. Our legal system is not at all fair, and it could come back on you.

Steve, the poachers that got sued were caught before, fined and came back again. Said the fine was cheaper than joining a club. So the lawyer sued em in civil court, back around 85 maybe. It was in Marengo Co.
