Went out to wheeler this morning and finally got on some deer. I shot a mature doe at 35 yds broadside at 8:08 am. When I shot she jumped the string a slightly and turned which caused me to hit her in the shoulder. I could see the arrow halfway through her as she ran straight away from me. Good blood started ~20 yards from the hit site:

I waited for ~3 hrs, went back in, and found good blood for the next 150 yds. 4-5 puddles like this over the next hundred yards or so with good blood in between. She never appeared to lay down:

I found the broad head end of the arrow first at approximately 40-50 yds from the hit site:

Later at ~80 yds from the hit site I found the other 6" of the knock end of the arrow in a small privet bush:

She was painting some trees pretty good at times. The last blood I found was a good golf ball-size "puddle":

We looked for at least another hour from there spiraling out and nothing. It was pretty thick in there so you would think you would see more blood on brush, trees, etc... but we couldn't find anything beyond that.

I am going to meet someone with a dog shortly. I sure would like to recover her.

I hope you find her and with a dog you might.

But in my experience I have not recovered a deer with that type of blood trail.

I shot my 8 point this year in the shoulder. The blood trail looked that good, as well. He didn't make it 50 yards.

Good luck.

Update when you can. Curious about your broad head , arrow weight and bow poundage.
I think she is dead.

I think she's dead. Reckon something was pushing her? I shot a doe that bled like yours is. It was nearly 2 hours before I found her and the yotes had already eaten her ass out... I feel like they kept my deer running. I tracked her roughly 300 yards.

Well. Just got back home. I met Ammon McKinney and Woodrow over there at about 8:30pm. Good guy and dog for sure but we didnt have any luck beyond where we originally last found blood. I really appreciate him coming out right on the heels of another track. Only thing we can figure is that it was possibly a higher shoulder shot than I thought. I have replayed it a thousand times now as we all do.

Im shooting 70lbs now with the Rage slipCam broadhead. The same ones made a mess of hog a few weeks ago. I have seen the debates but these expanded and seemed to perform pretty well considering it was bad placement after she jumped the string. Even though it appears to hit the shoulder, and probably a little high, it still passed through enough to break off the majority of the arrow on the exit side. Lesson learned for me on those 35+ yard shots.

Woodrow found my 8pt, Great guy with a impressive dog. Sorry y'all didn't find yours. It is frustrating, but eventually it happens if you hunt long enough.

Yep, you hate it but sooner or later it happens, at least you did all you could do.

Me too. I never thought in a million years I wouldn't find that deer. I hope she makes it and isn't injured so bad that the coyotes eventually catch up to her.
