Just got my power bill yesterday and it's basically double last month's ($280 vs. $140). My first thought was I had forgotten to pay the month before, but nope...the usage is through the roof (heat pump). Has anyone else gotten a bill lately reflecting units trying to keep up with this cold?

JC man. I haven't gotten mine yet but I'm sure it will be higher.

Oh, they're all gonna be higher if you're house is all electric like mine.

Last time we had some cold weather like this our gas bill at the shop was $1000. Probably will be this month too. We turn them down to 40 at night and up to 55 during the day.

My went from 160 to 190. But I also spent almost $100 for propane last month, so we could use the fireplace. And the bottle gets filled again tomorrow.

well your heat pump is set not to run below a certain temperature, and that is when your heat strips kick on, so it is probably more heat strip usage in combination with your heat pump usage. Do you have a smart thermostat?

I'm not looking forward to it. Girl that works with my wife said hers jumped up a extra 200.00. Our heat pump runs nearly constant. It's going to be ugly

Next month is when the bill for all this real cold weather will come thru. Glad I heat with gas logs. I'm expecting a $75 gas bill.

My power bill goes down in the winter, not running Air Conditioning.
But I just paid a $200 Propane bill.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Yep. February's bill will arrive and there'll be some major freakouts.

None of the power bills listed above seem even remotely freakout territory. We lived in a 1,300 sq ft house in Bham with admittedly terrible insulation and the bills would reach $250. Still cheaper than $10,000-$12,000 on all new windows.

summer & winter, right? see below, re: house w/bad insulation & bad windows/doors ... was the $10-12k from a contractor for new windows? man i built my own 2300 sq ft house & put in Pella double-paned windows & it was nowhere near that much

Thats why they use furnaces instead of heat pumps. But, i'd imagine their fuel bill is eye popping too!

Mine was $243 for Nov 20th - Dec 20th. I imagine the current one will be over $400

Mine has dropped so much lately it's making me think they are going to come back and say I owe them a bunch. Hasn't been this low in years.
