It is as simple as appearing in court and pleading NOT GUILTY.
You will be given a trial date. The LEO has to show up and put the case on. If the Leo proves beyond a reasonable doubt that you are guilty as charged, the judge will find you guilty and give you a fine and court costs. If the competent evidence does not prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt you are found not guilty.
These are your rights and it is up to the court to enforce them for you. I do not understand the problem.

In the case at hand, a road block and a GW giving tickets for not having a pen to fill out the harvest report form the Leo would have to prove that:
1.You were going hunting.
2. That you were not going to stop anywhere you could get a pen
3. That you intended not to have a pen on you to fill out the form.
4. That
you were not on the way home from hunting and may have given the pen to someone else to fill out a form, or you left it at Burger King after signing your charge ticket or it ran out of ink and you threw it away and intend to get another one.
5. That you were going to hunt in the State of Alabama and not some other state that did not have the harvest report requirement.
So you are willing to skip making the GW prove all of that just so you can pay the state a small fine and an obscenely large court cost so you do not have to go to court.
Its your money. But more than that, If the GW gets away with it, they he will push the envelope further and say you do not have a hunter orange cap in your truck and give you a ticket.
It does not good to smart off to a GW on the scene. The way to pot a stop to it is to have the judge tell him he is an idiot and to not waste the court's time.
That old case of the retired GW bringing charges was wrong on so many levels and is an exception, a very rare exception.
Have I defended clients I knew were guilty? Yes, because you are not actually guilty until and unless the evidence proves you are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. In addition I will do it to prove mitigating circumstances that might affect his sentence.
